Summer of 2012 Accomplishments

<p>Got an Internship for a Magazine as a Journalist and Social Media Marketer</p>

<p>PSAT Prep finally hit the 200s</p>

<p>Volunteered at the Library and Homeless Shelter</p>

<p>You guys suck.
I ate an entire cheesecake in an hour.</p>

<p>-finished AP Lit summer assignment
-volunteered at local library
-self-studied some AP Psych
-started college apps/essays</p>

<p>What to do in the next…er…11 days before school starts:
-finish up my volunteering at the library
-self-study more AP Psych
-continue college apps/essays
-self-study some AP Stats/AP Gov, perhaps?</p>

<ul>
<li>Volunteered 11 hours (yeah, not much) at the library.</li>
<li>Got a job at McDonald’s. Had crappy hours, only earned $500.</li>
<li>Studied and tested out of trigonometry, physics, and calculus.</li>
<li>Started two online AP courses.</li>
<li>Played badly at piano recital.</li>
<li>Joined gym, ran 11 miles without stopping.</li>
</ul>

<p>-worked a booth for my art club at the local fair
-skipped precalc
-set up a new program at the library
-joined xc, ran my first few 5ks
-studied SATs
-finished 5 art pieces for the portfolio
-did most of the calc ab assignment</p>

<p>-Started really getting into SAT tutoring, and making some good money
-Started going over Python
-Went over some BC/Multivar Calc
-Began going over some basic philosophy (new ground for me =P)
-Marching band. That in of itself is kind of an accomplishment. >_></p>

<p>My only regret is that I haven’t done much volunteering. I did a car wash for my youth group, but that was just a few hours. Well, I guess no NHS again this year. =/</p>

<p>I like the idea of this thread…Dwelling on the positives is my thing!</p>

<p>This summer has been the best one yet. I made some incredible memories and got the chance to experience so many life-changing things!</p>

-Received the youth award at my city’s Pride Festival.</p>

<p>-Was named one of the “Queer Heroes NW” in their “Heroes of Tomorrow” category.</p>

<p>-Toured around Central Oregon performing with my theatre-based Christian youth group.</p>

<p>-Traveled to Washington, DC to attend ReconcilingWorks, a conference of LGBTQ-affirming churches and individuals within the Lutheran Church, on a full scholarship and donated airline miles.</p>

<p>-Attended the National ELCA Youth Gathering, where 33,000+ Lutheran youth gathered in New Orleans for a week of worship, service, and fellowship.</p>

<p>-Had a web designer donate his services for my organization’s beautiful new website.</p>

<p>-Spent a day volunteering at Warped Tour again, reaffirming that I need to be involved somehow in the touring music industry.</p>

<p>-Began the process of planning a release show for my organization’s upcoming compilation album.</p>

<p>-Retook the second half of Sophomore English (it’s not finished yet, but the idea is to get it finished before school starts in two weeks…yikes!)</p>

<p>I feel like more happened, but those are the highlights.</p>

<p>Did AP work, bunch of college visits, talked to admissions officers, lol then I stressed about applications:). Since I was a Student Ambassador last year with a travel program& I was gone for like 3 weeks-I didn’t do it again this year.Instead I did more service work w/ soup kitchens, homeless shelters, & volunteers of America…things that made me cry & thank God for the things he gave me at the end of the day:’). Yeah this summer was special but I’m ready to start school.</p>

<p>What I planned:
-Volunteer ~100 hours by the end of summer
-Work on soccer
-Practice my dance recital
-Internship with a neurological professor
-Complete at least 20 practice tests for the SATs
-Create a program…at this program
-self-study Latin III before I head to Latin IV this year</p>

<p>What I accomplished:
-Volunteer ~6 hours<br>
-created the program
-Completed 2 practice tests for the SATs
-played badminton
-began practicing for my dance recital
-started organizing a blood drive at my school
-finished ~10 new dramas
-lost 10 lbs unnecessarily</p>

<li>Volunteered around 150 hours at a local shelter</li>
<li>Worked at a kids camp full time for a month</li>
<li>Continued working at the kennel around 12 hours/week</li>
<li>Went to yearbook camp (and it was horrible. imagine 12 hours per day of discussing fonts and team building exercises)</li>
<li>Read a lot of books on my list</li>
<li>Started college apps</li>
<li>Watched 5 seasons of Survivor with my Dad (we’re watching the whole series from the beginning)</li>
</ul>

<p>It’s been good, but school starts next Wednesday, and I’m looking forward to my senior year. I’m ready to end high school with a bang.</p>

<li>Studied for the ACT</li>
<li>Began research on my EE</li>
<li>started exercising</li>
<li>Went to Girls State</li>
<li>Went to a YDA conference</li>
<li>Through speeches, I was selected as one of two girls from my state to go to Girls Nation</li>
<li>Met Nancy Pelosi</li>
<li>Went to the White House and met the President</li>
<li>Saw Al Franken, John Kerry, and John McCain on the Senate floor (Not an accomplishment, but cool. And good timing.)</li>

  • Begin reviewing for subject tests</p>

<p>Get off of my lazy bum and apply myself in school. Whelps…</p>

<p>Went to Hawaii.</p>

<p>Multivariable calculus class.
Researched more colleges.</p>

<p>Besides that, I’m good.</p>

<p>-Did a full-time internship for OFA
-Saw the President and met the First Lady and the chair of the DNC
-Went to Girls State
-Read some
-Had some perfect days at the beach with my friends and my boyfriend
-Welcomed my cousin from Sweden, who’s staying with us for a year
-Watched way too much TV</p>

<p>-Went to a summer program at MIT
-Had my family visit me from Nepal (we’re globe trotters)
-Went to New York (I’m not a US citizen so it’s a big deal)
-Visited 80% of the colleges I’m applying to
-Did SAT practice, a couple of College essays, IB diploma internal assessments and summer reading</p>

<p>Still to do
-40 hours of community service (most likely wont happen)
-Going to Rhode Island to see colleges
-Finish my Extended Essay</p>

-curling practice once a week
-searching the internet for research internships i cud do, but not qualified for any… :’(</p>

<p>Well, school’s starting in a week, let’s see what I managed to accomplish;</p>

<li>Got a job, worked @ job. T’was fun.</li>
<li>Got another job, starting job the week after summer job ended. Can’t wait.</li>
<li>Made Common App account, filled in the bare-bones family information, added some colleges to the list. Most of them are there.</li>
<li>Got senior pictures done (my wallet, it hurts)</li>
<li>Bought my yearbook and saved $25 for ordering early (my checkbook aches)</li>
<li>Went on a lovely vacation, was sick as a dog for most of it.</li>
<li>Read a large stack of books, checked out a stack of a dozen just yesterday.</li>
<li>Ate a lot of the best ice cream ever.</li>
<li>Had an intellectually stimulating conversation about books with my English teacher when we ran into each other at the ice cream place.</li>
<li>Went to a Patriots game with my dad.</li>
<li>Started brainstorming the college essay.</li>
<li>Scheduled some visits.</li>
</ul>

<p>I am pleased.</p>

<li>Worked at my job (officially for 1 year! woot!) </li>
<li>Scored 2 internships for this school year</li>
<li>Decided where I reallllly want to go to school (Les Roches: Marbella)</li>

<li>Started Common App shiznit</li>
<li>Started college essay</li>

<li>Finished reading 8 books (summer goal!!! Oh yeah! But now I’ve extended it to 3 more. I’ve got a week of summer left. Oh Allah, help me…)</li>

<li>Lost some weight? But then I realized I didn’t need to lose weight so I gained it all back -_-</li>
<li>Studied my IGCSE course for Biology.</li>
<li>Oh my God, I had such a pathetic summer (in terms of productivity).</li>
