Summer of 2012 Accomplishments

My accomplishments this summer: severely lacking (I am so disappointed in myself, ugh).

I volunteered at a homeless shelter (every Friday); I was the director of human resources at a company; lost weight, despite the fact I ate at Chipotle and blueberry hill roughly four times a week.

I wanted to read tons of books, self-study my AP classes and take a lot of SAT practice exams.

Anyways, what did the College Confidential Community accomplish over the summer?

Let’s see…

I’ve finished my 50-hour volunteer project for school, so I don’t have to worry about that anymore, yay! Although I’ll probably volunteer a lot more at someplace that I actually care about lol.
I worked at my dad’s office and made a decent amount.
I started studying for SAT II Math 2 and will probably take in October.
I taught myself precalc, even though I probably won’t be taking AP Calc next year :frowning:
I’ve also planned out my APs for the rest of high school LOL. typical CCer right here.

And…yeah, that’s about it. I’m determined to make next summer MUCH more productive haha.

Unfortunately I became a victim of fangirling. The Olympics changes a person haha. On a serious note, I volunteered in a hospital in a 3rd world country while on vacation, began volunteering at a local hospital, finished my summer homework, and I’ve spent multiple weekends helping to earn money for my youth group. What I really need to do is start apps and figure out what I want to major in… Oh and I need to start studying for the ACT/SAT. I don’t want to take it for a 3rd time in November/December.

Taught at a math camp, watched some Olympics, built a roller coaster out of K’nex :)

I went to the gym 3-4x a week for the past few months, studied for the SAT a bit, still haven’t finished my summer reading, and yeah… it’s been a very boring and procrastinatory summer with no noteworthy accomplishments (I’m not usually this lazy over the summer, haha). I was planning on volunteering, but then I… didn’t. :(

Spent whole time interning (40 hours a week…almost said a day) at UCSD and thought myself calculus…went by TOO fast but I have boosted my SAT score on practices A LOT.

Went to Israel for three weeks

Coached a golf camp for little kids

Studied for the ACT

Taught myself geometry

(Am now doing) a glass-blowing intensive

AP summer work (but not really, I still have a ton to do)

-Business Camp at Columbia
-Tennis
-PSAT Studies
-JSA Republican National Convention Sympisium acceptance. (Can’t go because family vacation :(:(:()

I worked.

And scored a job interview tomorrow.

-Read the Prince and Hardball (for school)
-worked as a custodian
-worked as a tutor
-went to a karate world championship
-made a stromboli

I was mildly productive. (compared to a lot of you) (senior year starts in exactly a week) I volunteered at the hospital and now have 1300ish hours (started at 1200 at the beginning of the summer). I did 2 of the 18 pages of the AP Lit summer packet -- (It’s worth 400 pts so I have to finish by Monday). I went to summer@Brown for 3 weeks (that was awesome). I had a job interview a couple of days ago, but I’m guessing I didn’t get the job since I haven’t been called (--). I also worked on my online class

Hardly productive…

-Started working out more (and running 10+ miles each week but then it died down real fast)

-Made approx $500 from babysitting and some paperwork for my neighbors

-Got into student council (I wasnt voted top 6 (though I was probably top 10) but the teacher wanted me and a few other students to be in so I found out a week or two ago that I made it!)

-Done maybe 10 hours or so with volunteering in an internship I have with the DNC

-Made an A in Honors Pre-cal (summer course so I can take AP Physics and Calc this year)

-In a week or two I’ll be done with my summer reading (haha I just started this, but it’ll definitely get done)

What I actually wanted to accomplish:

-A good amount of preparation for the SATs/PSATs

-to have made the tennis team (and gone to the pre-season practices)

-Started a good amount of preparation for AP Physics and Calc

-Did some extra volunteering

-Read a ton of books (a lot of classics were on the list, plus some sequels to books I’ve been reading)

Yeah… but still was semi-productive.

Ehh Democratic. :/

I still haven’t finished my summer homework.

In the beginning of summer I was writing a lot but scratched it all because it was part of a hopeless story. I went to writing camp for two weeks which was productive and wonderful and I loved it. Then I wrote two short stories and a half after that. One of those short stories was just a guilty pleasure high school romance story that I will never show anyone in my life, so I guess that counts as one and half short stories…which is basically nothing.

I read one and half books. I haven’t spent times with my friends at all. I didn’t go on vacation either. This was a pretty bummer summer.

This summer has been the busiest but also the most productive of all time for me.

 • Got a job at a small R&D company as an intern and have made about $1000 dollars so far
 • Played beach volleyball almost every weeknight every week of the summer
 • Attended an elite college training volleyball camp in PA
 • Completely cleaned out and reorganized my closet
 • Attempted to keep up with community service for NHS (need 12 hours over the summer) but unfortunately this has fell on the back-burner and I still need 10 hours
 • Learned some Calculus and AP Physics
 • Completed about 75% of my summer homework so far

-Finished summer work for AP Econ
-400 hours at a neuro-ophthalmology lab
-Attended a neuroscience summer camp
-Started writing a blog with a friend (luxperci.com) that’s gotten 7300+ views from 80 countries in only the 12 days since startup.

TO-DO (in the next 2 weeks):
-Start college apps/essays
-Finish summer work for AP Lit and AP French
-Start writing Siemens/Intel research paper
-Start “prep” for Math 2

Gahh I’m disappointed in myself…I wanted this summer to be so much more.

-Ran 700+ miles to prepare for cross country season

To Do in the next 3 weeks:

-Learn the entirety of Physics 1
-Read An American Childhood
-Write two essays
-Learn the first two chapters of Calc AB

Classic procrastinator here.

What I planned this summer:
-getting a job
-getting an internship
-cleaning my room from top to bottom
-not procrastinating my ap lit assignments
-study for the act and sat every day
-lose 10 pounds

What I accomplished:
-I interview for a job on Wednesday
-I got an internship
-I completely cleaned my room
-I handed in my ap lit assignments on time
-I lost 15 pounds and didn’t really need to

So, yeah, I think I did okay this summer. I just have to work my butt off and study for the SAT and ACT.

I did a community service trip to Pittsburgh (around 35-40 service hours), read a few books (not including those for summer reading), practiced guitar and bass, and started my APUSH summer assignment. Nothing noteworthy unfortunately

Oh and I just set up my own company making Android apps… (AWESOME, wish I had thought of it sooner!)
