summer orientation vs late orientation

Hello I am an international student.

I registered an orientation june 23-25.

My problem is i graduate high school first week of june and orientation is kind of late after graduation.

However i have an option to delay my orientation to late orientation when is August 20-22. and going back to home after graduation.

So my question is what is disadvantage of being in late orientation.

Should i go early one for scheduling? but i heard that each orientation opens limit spot for classes so later orientation student can have same chance to register classes.

What should i do?

Help me out :(

Early is better for getting the classes you want, but if you can’t go to an early orientation it isn’t the end of the world. There is a drop/add period, and you can stay on your toes and follow what happens then if you don’t get into the courses you want.

Do i have to go to orientation to register classes?
I heard we can register over the internet?

I actually called UT to ask this question and the answer I got was that it’s not a big deal and that you should be able to get into the classes you need.

They open up additional seats in classes each orientation session.

if you know what’s good for you, you will go to the earliest orientation possible. you have to attend orientation to meet with an adviser who will remove a bar from your registration. there are some classes where most people HAVE to take it (intro BIO, intro CHEM, etc) and all the best professors will fill up quickly. Yes, they open up spots for classes for following orientations but the thing is, everyone who went to a previous orientation and had their bar removed already will be able to register as well from within their own home (if they didn’t get a spot in the class they wanted the first time around). registration typically opens at 8 am on the last day of the orientation, but your assigned registration time may not be until 10 am.You will learn quickly that you need to be fast with your fingers as well because classes become closed or waitlisted in SECONDS (you are essentially competing with a thousand other students every orientation).

the earlier you go to orientation, the more chances you have to register for the classes you need by logging on during the registration period for every successive orientation after yours. There IS an add/drop period before school begins but i’d rather not feel worried for the rest of the summer waiting for it.

Hello Chaotix

What if i personally visit UT before my graduation date and remove all the bar that prevent me to register class and THEN register classes at home?

Is it possible?

Probably not, I believe you will have required events you will need to attend (wing meetings) during orientation to register.

Thanks. I decided to attend late orientation. I heard that scheduling is not that bad and also it is only one semester so… Thanks you guys for help
