Hello! I really need a summer program that will look good on a college application but also allow me to have a fun summer!! I'm interested in musical theater/drama, but also languages and cultural immersion. I'm fluent in Spanish and would love to do some kind of study abroad, but would also be interested in going somewhere new and learning a new language!! I would also be interested in a more academic-based program; I love English and reading!

I'm a current high school Junior, with a 3.93 GPA and like a gazillion extra-curricular activities. Any suggestions??

Please nothing math or science based...

It seems like pretty much every college you can think of has a summer program for high school students, but a lot of these programs lack hard core academics and are more about making the college money. Two summers ago I participated in Duke TIP, and it was one of my best summer experiences ever. However, I didn’t feel like I learned very much and it was close to $6000 (for 3 weeks). If you want to have fun, maybe you should look at programs like these. My suggestion if your goal is to do something to help with college admissions is to stay local. Take a course or two for credit at a nearby college. Get an internship. Volunteer. Last summer I did all three of these things and while it wasn’t exactly the time of my life, I can honestly say I learned more that summer than the previous two years of high school put together!
