Summer Programs - Discussion

Sorry to say d received letter of regret for Michigan's summer program. She felt she had a good audition tape and has quite a bit of experience in all areas. She is a legit sop. She has attended an arts school since 7th grade. Again, congrats to all those attending.

To Vocaldad (and all) Yay! I am so glad to hear about your son doing NYU?Steinhardt. I think that official notices are going out around May 1. May I ask what state you are from, just out of curiosity? I know they definitely had the program last year also. Have you received any paperwork yet? I am always paranoid about missing forms... how old is your son?
Sounds like he is going to have an exciting summer. I"d be curious to hear how the Mich. and Steinhardt programs compare to one another.
I am surprised that no one has mentioned CCY (Wesleyan) on this site. It is for students between grades 10 and 12 for 5 weeks. My daughter did that program 2 summers ago and loved it.

To Vocaldad, I have a strong feeling that she will be attending NYU/Steinhardt. I will know for sure by first week of May. Hope fully, by then, even more people will be able to share info about the program.I think that it sounds great but it would sure be nice to hear from someone who actually experienced it. Would it be weird to ask them for references from past students? Is your s taking it for credit? That option was offered and I didn't know if it meant different housing
or other arrnagements. Also, are you going to do the private voice les-
sons? They're rather steep, altho, then again, this is NY...

We have no paper info yet - just the e-mail acceptance. I'll let you know as we proceed. If you want to correspond further, let me know.

Sorry to forget. We are from Mich.

My daughter, who is a soph at PSU MT, has been accepted in the 2005 Jazz Program at The School at Jacob's Pillow that runs in August. This dance school is directed by Chet Walker who originated "Fosse". Only 25 dancers were accepted in auditions held across the US and in South America and Europe. Needless to say, my daughter is extremely thrilled to get in this program.

PSU Dad,

Wow!! That is a huge deal! My d is also a dancer and we've heard how hard it is to be accepted at Jacob's Pillow. You have every right to be proud as can be. She will have an amazing experience. I'm sure her faculty and friends at PSU are so proud and thrilled for her as well. Congratulations and thanks for sharing such great news!

Hi Everyone!
I want to post to Nick, Nick's friend, Kate, and Meredith to say congratulations on getting into MPulse, I also got in and am so excited! It's going to be such a great experience and I am really pumped to meet you all

-Sarah

Wow... that makes 5 CC kids that were accepted to MPulse so far... out of the 24 that are accepted! That is awesome. We all have GOT to email and get to know one another! lol. Sarah & Meredith; Congratulations to you both! I look forward to spending an awesome two weeks with you gals - maybe we'll room together!? That'd be ironic. (PM me!?)

I also wanted to express my condolences to those on this forum who were not accepted into MPulse. It was extremely competitive this year, and I feel so blessed to have been accepted. But, I believe that everything happens for a reason. If you were not accepted to this specific program, I know their is some other summer program or experience out there, eager to have your extremely-talented-self apart of it. So, don't let this get you down - Learn from the experience, keep your options open and keep on keeping on!

Warmly,

Kate

dear Vocaldad, Thanks for your response. We are from CT. Let's keep each other posted.
Congrats to everyonr else on their great news also.
Looking froward to hearing and learning more as time goes on.

Hooray for your girl! What an amazing opportunity for her this summer! Those Penn State sophmore MT's will be making a name for themselves all over the country!

rejected. ouch.

Oh, sorry vocaldad! Just remembered your S... That makes 6 CC kids accepted.

~Kate

P.S. I'm really sorry, 'that belle'... I PMed your mom a day or so ago.

Vocaldad! I need to add my appologies to Kate's. I must have missed your post about your son attending MPulse, give him my congratulations!

Anyone considering the VCU Summer Theater Program? 2 weeks and has MT component.

hi, i am a current high school sophomore.
i have just been accepted to all the summer programs i have applied to. i have been accepted to Carnegie-Mellon, NYU-Cap21 (six weeks) and University of Michigan pre-college programs. I was not expecting to get into all three. I know these are all great college for musical theatre, but I have no idea which one to do. Any ideas? Help? Information? Opinions?

Iloveroxy - when did you receive your acceptances? I am curious because my D applied to both CMU and Cap21 and we have not heard anything. Thanks for your reply ...

Hmm..well first off congratulations!!
That is so awesome!
Well, I applied to UofM only because that was the only place I felt like going this summer. Honestly, I felt like I understood the idea of what NYU has to offer and the same with Carnegie Mellon, but UofM was just the more curious school for me. I've seen tons of tours and shows where it seems in the cast bios that TONS of performers(that are actually WORKING) came from UofM, which I didn't know much about.
If I had no financial restraints then I'd of course do all three. But choosing one or any combination of schools is sure to give you more insight into your future college application and decision process.
Good luck!
And if you come to UofM I'll be super-excited to meet you!

We have just returned from vacation in Florida. Received a letter saying that D was on a "short wait list" for the summer program. She is only a sophomore and already accepted at NYSSA (NY Summer School of the Arts-theater program) and Syracuse, so she is disappointed, but not devastated since she knows she will be attending somewhere. But UM was her first choice, and since I'll bet no one turns it down, it won't really help to be on a wait list, especially since we have to make a deposit to one of the others soon. Dody informed us that of the roughly 90 applicants, about 70-75 were girls, and they only took 12, so she is still feeling pretty good about the wait list. But it was really her first choice, so what to do? Wait? Not sure! We're kind of in limbo here.

Holy cow! Major congrats to your #1d for making the waitlist at such a prestigious program as a sophomore - that's gotta bode very well for the future. NYSSA is also a great program, and I know it's reasonably priced. Is the deposit low enough that you'd be willing to let it go if something opened up at UM?

Very cool news.
