Summer School

If I pass the Bio course but I fail the bio regents… is it necessary that I go to summer school

Not necessarily.

It depends on your school. Some use the Regents as a final exam; some don’t.

According to https://www.hesc.ny.gov/prepare-for-college/your-high-school-path-to-college/regents-requirements.html

Regents Exam Requirements
Regents Diploma - a score of 65 or better is required on these Regents exams:

Comprehensive English
Mathematics (Any one)
Global History
US History
Science (Any one)
Language other than English

Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation - a score of 65 or better is required on these Regents exams:

Comprehensive English
Mathematics (All three)
Global History
US History
Science (One physical and one life science)
Language other than English

So, in other words, in order to eventually graduate from high school. you need to have passed a Science Regents-- have you already passed one? If not, then you’ll want to pass Bio-- but that still doesn’t necessarily mean Bio.

If you eventually want the Advanced Designation, then you’ll probably want that Living Environment Regents.

And you never told us what Guidance had to say about your forgetting to show for the Living Environment Regents. If you had spoken to guidance, you probably would have gotten all the information I’ve incuded here… so I’m guessing you still haven’t asked the one person who can answer your question.

Also, for the record, it would probably be far less confusing to most people-- probably yourself included-- if you stopped referring to it as “bio” and started calling it “Living Environment”.

In my school district, if you fail the regents but pass the course, you have the option to take a full summer school course for a grade or a shortened review session for the test itself.

To get a basic regents diploma, you need to pass one science regents. To get an advanced regents diploma, you need 3 science regents, including a life sciences (bio seems to be the only one in that category). I will state that none of my children received the advanced diploma, but 3 have the regular with honors designation. The other 2 have a regular diploma. However, all 5 took the bio regents, even my oldest, who showed up 3 days after surgery to fix a badly broken arm (fortunately, not his writing arm).

I would guess that your school will allow you to retake the test.
