Summer Science Program 2017

Anyone know how many people are placed on the alternate list for each camp? I’m guessing about 10?

@curiousscience Are you on the alternate list as well?

Yep, for biochemistry.

Does anyone know how much the initial deposit is and when it is due?

Not admitted…Does that mean rejected?

I’m rejected…I really want to know what I did wrong. I have a 34 in ACT, several 5s in APs, my recommenders know me well and like me, I worked really really hard on my essays. Being rejected by this and the other program I applied to makes me feel like I won’t get into college.

@schrodingersowl @OnAHyperbola We should make a group chat somewhere to share our giddyness for the next few months!

@SirLegolot I believe they’ll tell you the deposit date after the financial aid decisions are made.

@HappySquirrel Hey don’t think that. Rejection from some summer camps don’t necessarily mean that you’re nor meant for college. Some of the people who apply to colleges do not even know of these camps, let alone applying to them. But you earned a whole experience while applying, at least you know that your profile was evaluated by the adcom and maybe they couldn’t admit you because the applicant pool was really tight this year and they had to reject some really good people. Don’t lose your hope please.

It depends on many factors. SSP has limited space so rejection does not mean too much. Although it does not translate to college admission at all, perhaps you should work on improving your profile so that you can stand out more.

@florencewelch666 Well said. @HappySquirrel Since you have the internal drive and intellect to make good scores and write strong essays, I’m fairly sure colleges will see these positive attributes. Just keep working hard and doing your thing!

@jakeowl @triacontahedron Agree with you guys. Admissions depend on various factors. And @HappySquirrel as long as you have the inner drive, you’ll be dandy. It’ll take you everywhere good trust me.

@HappySquirrel Rejection is a reality that we all deal with. But even knowing that doesn’t make it sting less. You’ll be sad for a while and then you’ll move on. And it’s okay to be in the state you must be in right now. It’ll only make all the things you’ll go on to achieve that much sweeter! As long as you keep going and give your best!

Thanks guys!! I really appreciate all your encouragements!!

@OnAHyperbola Which campus are you going to?

Are all of you that were accepted to SSP planning to attend the program? I was accepted to both YSPA and SSP and I’m not sure which one I should go for. It’d be cool to check out Yale, and YSPA has newer technology, but SSP is more prestigious and is more established. Any advice?

@cfleet Don’t really have much of an advice on this, but since this is the SSP board, the answers are probably going to be pretty skewed. May be best to ask for advice on both boards and determine off of that.
And then there’s personal opinions too, so take a note of that(I would want you to go to YSPA since I’m stuck on the alternate list here T.T, but haven’t really researched YSPA so don’t know). Congrats on getting into both though, and hope you have fun at whichever you choose!
But yeah, read some blog posts from the previous years and then choose the one which you think you will best fit in to.

Go with the one you like. It’s not just about college applications, so if you like the YSPA newer technology more, try it out. YSPA is basically an updated form of SSP and while it’s not as long established, it’s still as prestigious and hard to get into, shown by the fact that some people who’ve been rejected from YSPA and accepted here.

Accepted into NMT Astro! Did you guys apply to a particular campus, or did you check the “either” box? Also, I was really surprised that I got in, so either my recommendations (two math teachers and a chem teacher) were really good or my essays were really good. My SAT and PSAT were 1470, 780 physics subject test, no AP tests, and no accolades of any merit, weak EC’s and not much substance in the app.

I’m excited to see you all there; I’m sure it’ll be a blast!

@computer-fire I applied to both campuses with a preference for CUB (I ended up getting accepted there).
