Summer Science Program 2017

Accepted to Astrophysics at Boulder! I applied to both campuses. Wonder which one is more popular.

@florencewelch666 I’m in the CUB campus.

@computer-fire Congrats! I’m going to be at NMT also! :slight_smile: I believe I checked the box for either campus with no preference.

@raineydays Yay! Can’t wait to see you there! @OnAHyperbola @schrodingersowl and I have a group chat on here that we’ll try to add you on to talk about CUB and our excitement.

Aren’t there any accepted internationals except OnAHyperbola on this thread?

Those who got admitted please share your stats. got rejected this year and hoping to make up next year.

@JustCuriousOH I think the best strategy for getting into this program is just to spend a ton of time on essays and get really good letters of rec. Most people applying have good test scores and solid GPAs, and you won’t get in by being like most other applicants. The only other parts are the essays and recs, both of which give insight into your true character and capability in the program. So to get in, you need to develop your essays to show that you are not just another smart kid that wants to get in, but rather an individual that will give life to the program. So people sharing their stats won’t be that helpful, because if your standardized scores are in or near the 99th percentile (~1470 for new SAT or ~32 for ACT) then you are clearly smart enough, and they won’t make a decision based on you filling in two or three less correct bubbles than another applicant. Same with GPA, except they obviously want to see either growth or continued high-achieving in math and science. Best of luck next year!

So on edge, praying that I get off the alt list… haha

@computer-fire thank you.

Plus, I should add that getting in as a sophomore is nearly impossible. You might already have the “right stuff” but they are looking for juniors not sophomores. Good luck next year!

My stats aren’t top notch like lots of people here (ie the 99th percentile), but they’re pretty good considering my circumstances. My biggest tips of advice are to have great essays and teacher recommendations. To me - and probably to the SSP people as well - stats aren’t everything and that they are looking for people, not numbers, who would be a good fit for the program.
Good luck next year!

Admitted to CUB! So excited to attend that I’ve already installed python :slight_smile:

@cfleet I was waitlisted by YSPA and I’ve heard that YSPA had a similar acceptance rate this year, so in terms of prestige they should be about the same. Personally, if I could choose, I would pick SSP since it’s 5.5 weeks on campus vs. 4 for YSPA.

@physpi Congrats! There’s multiple people who were accepted to CUB on here. It’s going to be fun! I’ll be working on Python next week since it’s school vacation for me.
I was rejected from YSPA. lolololol

Last year I applied as a sophomore but got rejected. However, I got accepted this year. So sophomores, keep up with the work and you may get accepted next year!

@SirLegolot What campus?

sigh Any chance of making it from the wait list…

Has anyone received their financial aid decisions yet?

@triacontahedron I think since we have to have our forms in by tomorrow, we (domestic peeps) would find out our aid early next week (it said within a week of admission decision).

Is there a date by when we have to commit to SSP? I couldn’t find it on the admit page.

@cfleet It’s on the Campus and Program Fee page. The deadline is April 19th (next Wednesday).
