It’s usually around 10 days. Seeing as YSPA’s released earlier, that should be due soon though.
If you can’t make a decision by next Wed. because you’re waiting on other decisions, would they possibly allow an extension if you ask?
@ineedmoresleep Probably, but you don’t know until you ask! You could also ask the other camps you’re waiting on for an earlier decision since there’s a deadline to commit to SSP. I’ve done that to camps in the past and they’ve all been very understanding and almost all have gotten back to me early.
@frazzledazzle New Mexico Tech
@SirLegolot Sweet!
@cfleet Just got accepted off the YSPA waitlist so I believe we’re in the same boat now. Did you end up making a decision? I’m still learning toward SSP.
YSPA gives you quite a bit more time to work on any other projects/summer homework by the way, judging from the schedules.
And you also get more sleep comparatively, maybe 6-7 at YSPA and 4-5 at SSP
Anyone who also applied to MITES?
4-5 hours of sleep… you kidding? lmao
I hope so, but no. It also depends on the site, since the NMT campus is a little of a drive away from the actual observatory. I think they said that observations are from 1-3 AM usually and you also have to work on your Orbit Determination program, and waking up is around 8-9, so unless you hit the bed the moment you get back(which will bring it up to 5-6 hrs), it’ll be somewhere around that.
YSPA observes from 10-12, and then wakes up around 9. If you work on anything else, curfew is at 2, so you still have around make that 7-8 hours
Directly quoted from 2015 CUB’s blog post on July 22:
“According to the Oxford Dictionary, sleep is “a condition of body and mind such as that which typically recurs for several hours every night, in which the nervous system is relatively inactive, the eyes closed, the postural muscles relaxed, and consciousness practically suspended.” But for the SSPpl, the definition of sleep would be more accurately described as a condition of body and mind such as that which typically recurs for several minutes every morning in class, in which the nervous system is relatively active, the eyes half-closed, and the subconscious revolving around the sun, or gainz (this is for you Zach).
As the fourth week drifts by, sleep deprivation is taking its toll on every student. An average night of sleep is only about four to five hours. In addition to that, brutal, three-hour long lectures every morning leave the SSPpl exhausted and attempting to catch up on sleep at every opportunity…”
I was also accepted to both, but as of now I think I’m going to pick SSP.
How many people are in the CUB and NMT FB group rn?
@physpi @schrodingersowl I’m leaning towards SSP as well but haven’t formally committed yet
Waitlisted for bio. In major anxiety.
@ktorres I am in the same boat haha.
@cfleet Just wondering, which campus?
