Summer Science Program (SSP) 2020

Apparently the results may be delayed this year a bit due to the COVID conditions. My friend emailed them and they said so. It was originally supposed to come out this week.

Can you post the exact email your friend got?

On the facebook page for SSP you can see if you were admitted by reading the ā€œadmitted SSP 20ā€ essays.

Thanks for the info. At least we know now that SSP has been making admissions decisions. Iā€™m curious if anyone from this forum had their essay posted (I did not).

Neither did Iā€¦ I will say my essay was nowhere near as good ?

could you guys send a link to that facebook post? I canā€™t find it :frowning:

.

Wait I donā€™t get something- If they are posting the admitted applicantsā€™ essays on their Facebook page, why do they say the decision release will be postponed? Do they not make all decisions at once?

Sorry for the misunderstanding: they post ONE essay of ONE applicant every 1-5 days. Therefore, it would make sense that they would still be making decisions. It should be furthermore observed that it seems that the astronomy essays came first in the facebook timeline, implying perhaps that the astronomy decisions are done and they are now working on biochem. I say all of this with a tentative attitude, since I actually have no idea whatsoever as to what is going on right now in the admission office, haha. And to find the facebook page, just search up ā€œsummer science programā€ in facebook and open their page.

Does this link work for anyone?

It only works for the people that are already admitted, which in this case are the international applicants

So the results are not coming out this week? Historically, they have come out on April 9-12.

Not sure, but I was thinking next week. Did they specifically say somewhere that they were gonna delay decisions? On the website it says ā€œmid-april as planned.ā€

My friend sent an email to them and they responded saying they are not sure whether it will be delayed or not. Regarding the Facebook page, I heard that those essays are those of the international students who got accepted, not the students from the US.

lol my apologies, all gets more depressed since an international student whose first language would likely not be English still wrote a better essay than me in English

I got a question for yā€™all. Were your essays as short as the ones on the Facebook page, because to me it seems like mine were much longer and closer to the character limit. I donā€™t know if this is a disadvantage for me, or it does not matter.

I was about to ask that. Mine were much longer and close to the word limit. Thereā€™s a chance that they may have just taken a chunk out of it.

@grindtime2021 Iā€™m an international student and they only posted the first paragraph of my essay, so I think they only took small extracts from each essay. I assume most people would write essays close to the character limit, so it would not disadvantage you in any way. Good luck!!

Would SSP give decisions earlier if we email them?

I think they would if you have another program or something to commit to. Otherwise, I think they will make you wait.
