Summer Seminar 2005!

Hey, chanman, I'll be around there somewhere, and you know you don't want a girl beating you in push ups, right? Heh. I'm so pumped for this. I heard that there is a log that some short people can't reach...but I'm sure I'll be fine.

i promise i will be the WEAKEST person there

hey dictatoranna, i bet you'll beat me in pushups.
just watch haha. the 1st day of Pep training, i'll be the little short fat chinese kid to quit first

My son left today. Since he had to pre-make-up all of his school work before he left, he is so happy at least thats done! To everyone going to Session 1, just have a great time!

Thanks Oregon Mom, look forward to seeing you all there. GO NAVY BEAT ARMY

TODAYS THE DAY!!!!! Good luck everyone! My plane lands at BWI around 2. see everyone there! AND if my future roomate for the next 5 nights is on here.... were gona have a blast! hahaha

Good luck to all! My dd headed out at 4 am (ugh) over the mountains. You guys are going to have a GREAT time! Don't forget to send postcards to all the little brothers and sisters...

heartcross...just as an FYI there was no communication with SS members last year. It was a little stressful as it was 90+ degrees during sea trails and all kinds of health warnings in the area. There was no time for postcards etc. We got a quick call from the airport and nothing else... There are a couple of Annapolis web cams so you can see the weather which was fun but we didn't hear or see our son until we picked him up on Sat! Hope it is a great time for all...

For all parents of first session SS candidates. The weather in Annapolis looks pretty good for the week. A couple of thunderstorms, but temps only in the 80's. That's not bad for Maryland in June. My son is a detailer for SS...he's pretty excited about it all. Good luck everyone!

have fun everyone heading off to ss! im not going to be able to go after all due to my ankle. oh well. im sure you guys will have a great time!

Thanks for the heads-up on no communication. We've been gone all day--swim meets and gymnastics meet, so if she tried to call, we missed it. Gee--she did this in Paris last year too--no communication. ;-) Glad to hear it's not so hot--it was 30 degrees here today and snowing. Got over a foot on the passes...

Parents, I have to revise that weather forecast. Summer rolled in with a vengeance this weekend and we're back to the usual 90 degrees with 83% humidity. It's a bit cooler in Annapolis and they do get that nice breeze off the bay. Be prepared for lots of dirty, stinky laundry especially if your son or daugher participates on Indoc Day. Chances are they won't get much sleep that last night/day either. According to my son, things seem to be going well.

Grandma and grandpa dropped off our son. They said that it was really well-organized and they told him his squad (delta) and away he went with a midshipman!

Good report from my dd too. She said the mixer is tonight and that drilling is harder than it looks! ;-) She also said it was fun.

The Mixer... Ahhh, good times, good times. My roommate and I made a bet with 3 midshipmen that we could get 200 or so numbers that night, and if we won, the mids would have to do whatever we wanted. By the end of the night, we both had 200 numbers scrawled on our bodies (no paper available), including 3 midshipmen numbers. Great fun... lol, but here I am, getting ready to head off to Beast in 19 days. I can vividly remember how much I looked forward to NASS last year, and how I was gung-ho Navy at the end. Funny how things change.

Everyone says it, but everyone says it for a reason: Time will fly. You guys will be graduating before you know it. Don't do like I did and stress for 5 months after NASS about getting an LOA or an Appointment. It added too much unnecessary drama to my life. HAVE FUN your Senior year, please! Eat lots of pizza and drink lots of coke. But now I sound like an old fogey. lol

Marines is right. Take you're time. Although the mixer was ok, I had plenty of fun. NASS was great but the "plebe training" to me was the best part. We had to do an about-face to the wall and we stood there for about 10-15 mintues. Then the mids came running/ yelling and ordering us to repeat the missions of USNA, secretary, etc. I had to "chop" to my room and back 15 times while screaming "beat army" because I accidently said Yes sir to a female mid. (-.-) sigh good times my friends.

hahaha, you said "Yes Sir" to a female mid?! One of the guy mids MADE one of the guys in my squad go up to female mids and say that purposefully. He got frickin' put up against the wall for it, too!

Yea, me and my roommate got put on the "Pain Train". We ended up with no less than 5 different squads, the same female mid coming and screaming at us every time to GET BACK TO OUR SQUAD!

Ah, they most certainly are good times. I'm jealous of you guys that are going!

anyone heard from people at summer seminar recently

Hey all, im in my Language Seminar at the academy and snuck onto the internet. USNA is AWESOME!!!!!! I've had so much fun since saturday i cant contain myself. The squal leaders (SL) are all fantastic and can answer any questions you have. The best workshops I've had so far have been Martial Arts, Seamanship; Introduction to YP's (if you have this one, stay on the bridge. You get to drive the ship!!!!), and Robotics. One thing that will be pounded into your head here is is the concept of being motivated!!! HOOYAH!! haha, you'll know what im talking about when you get here.

I hope you like running alot because thats what you do here, and ask your SL about going on a Recon mission and ask if you can take the Hochiminh trail to your mission. lol
I have Sea Trials later today and they last 8 hours... it should be awesome.

Well my Course Intstructor is comming back now so i'll write ALOT more when when i get back... have a good day and......

GO BRAVO 3-2!!!!!!! HOOYAH!!!!!!!

P.S. Bring a FAN! you will wish you had one.. as well; bring alot of socks, you mights wear 3 pair a day and if you (excuse me) chaf alot, bring baby powder; Drilling is killer on that. Wish i could type more, but thats all i got.

Oh ya, that Mixer with the 1:6 female to male ratio SUCKED!!!! lol but it was fun compared to PT, so dont complain. and if you have 3/c Brooks as your Squad Leader, tell him Jonathan Hooper from the Bravo 3-2 "Breakers" said hello.

I am here at NASS right now @ an Information Tech workshot so we have internet access. We have sea trials in a few hours. NASS has been awesome but very tiring. I am definately going to sleep for days when I get back. The weather has been pretty nice, the only bad weather was during the mixer in which we were inside anyways. Everyone has been drinking alot of water so there hasn't been too much of a problem. The clothes you are issued are really cool (you get some underarmour stuff) but i recommend bringing every pair of socks you own. I brough like 7 pairs, which is definately not enough. The food has been pretty decent. It is not true that there is no communication. Although I don't have my cel with me, most candidates have been calling with theirs at night. There are also pay phones in which we are allowed to use (or at least I think we are allowed to use!). I will get on in a few days and give more information, but I recommend all upcoming NASS candidates to start running and doing pushups & situps right now!!!
