sea trials are really intense (6hours of non-sotp training incl. "the house of pain" and lots of martial arts). When you get done, you are utterly exhausted, but you have a great feeling that you've survived something amazing; that is, until the detailers come in for the mock I-day thing. KNOW YOUR RANKS AND THE MISSION. Failure to do so may result in 35 minutes of chopping trying to accomplish some ridiculous task, while being screamed at.

However, I survived, and the week was a lot of fun. Most of the squad leaders (detailers) are really chill until Sea Trials, then they all got in a huddle and they stopped being nice. Save your energy for the CFA and PRT; don't go all out when you get there playing intramurals.

Hope you guys in session 2 have a great time. Sea trials isn't until Wednesday, so you really have some time to soak up the atmosphere and have a lot of fun.

P.S. If anyone gets Jen DeLuca for a squad leader, let me know- she was mine and she kicks butt!

what day was the PRT and CFA done on? what does the physical training in the morning consist of..for example how far are the runs? For anyone that can answer theses questions for me THANKS for the info!

The mission as in the mission of the naval academy?..the one thats in reef points?....that one?.. anything else? oh do you know about the climbing wall at all?

--'drew

this is for any girls...how many pushups, situps, n pullups were u able to do in 2 min n how far did u throw the basketball?

Yes the Mission of the USNA. also know the Navy blue and gold, 5 basic responses, and the ranks of BOTh Navy and Marine Corps.

Things you DONT really need to bring: Extra shirts (You only need shirts for 3 days... the first, the mixer, and the last, everything else is given to you)

Thing you NEED to bring: a fan!!!!, extra socks, a trash bag (sea trials get messy so you might want one to put ur muddy stuff in), 3 towells, 2 pair tennis shoes (this one you will regret if you dont bring them), and a de-humidifier or portable AC. those last 2 were a joke, but they would help.

To answer some questions: Yes, Bancroft Hall does have AC, but they turn it off between graduation and I-day, so in other words... they did it just for us. Induct is really fun as long as you know that the detailers are just trying to give you a taste of plebe summer, DO NOT take them seriously!! The CFA is done on the 2nd day and the PRT is done on the 3rd...

Words of advice: drinks lots of water and watch how much you eat. dont ever ever ever quit, your SL are writing evals about you to go into your record. Guys, wear boxer breifs, alot of peoiple had to drop out of the regimental run on the last day b/c of crotch rot... and most of all, BE MOTIVATED!!!

GO BRAVO BUMBLEBEES!!!! Platoon 3, Squad 2 (SL- 3/c Brooks)

Shirts: One for the mixer and one to wear in/out of Maryland. No other shirts needed.
Shorts: If you're picky, then one (athletic shorts) for each day. If you can bring shorts that dry fast, then bring those. As for during the day, bring shorts/khakis to wear. Two or three pairs will do, depending on your preference for clean vs. light packing.
Shoes: An old pair and a new pair.
Socks: Twelve (12) will do.
Towels: I brought one normal-sized one and two medium-sized ones. That was enough.
Bags: Bring a trashbag for dirty clothes.
Hygiene: Plenty of shower soap and shampoo, shower shoes (if you're into that kind of thing), toothpaste/toothbrush, and deoderant/spray.
Underwear: Plenty (enough for two each day). Sports bras, boxer briefs, etc.

I didn't need a fan. I'm glad I didn't bring one. Be sure to have extra space/an extra bag in which to put the stuff (clothes) they give you. Pack light.

As for physical fitness, be in shape. Don't worry if you aren't in excellent shape, because not everyone who shows up is in excellent shape. Try everything, even if you think you can't do it. Just never give up. If you're not used to the weather, then be sure you drink plenty of water.

Pay attention to everything. Know what they tell you to know. Don't take I-night too seriously, but take it like a man.

Most of all, just have fun. Seriously, the six days go by so fast. Go all into it with 100%, and you'll not regret anything. I didn't want to leave. How I envy you people already! Heh.

Dict. anna,

what were u in?

i was alpha-3-1

A-2-1! Heh, you were right next to us...somewhere. :)

Oh, and don't bring a phone. You'll not need to call your parents, even though they say to call. I didn't talk to them until I got back tonight.

(In reply to SwimUSNA about the CFA)
Basketball toss - 27 ft
Arm hang - 28 sec. (Do a pull up if you are positive you can, but otherwise don't waste too much time trying to get up there (like a few other girls and I did) or else you'll lose that much energy for the arm hang (I can do it for 2 minutes now)).
Shuttle run - 10.1 sec.
Sit ups - 98
Push ups - 70
Mile run - 6:27 (Slowest. Mile. Ever. Don't eat too much before you run, or else you'll be having lunch a second time around.)

I ended up with a 89.9. Psh. I'll do it again.

how exactly do u do the basketball toss...do u have to remain still or can u swing ur arm around?

Your knees have to be parallel to the line. You can move your torso, but nothing below your waist can move. Use your core.

"It's all in the hips!"

so the hips can move....great...another thing how many pushups n pull ups were other girls in your squad doin..ill def not be able to do what u did! That was awesome

another thing...sorry...waht was the longest distance you guys had to run at one time?

Hey hey, don't sweat it. You'll be fine.

There were no other girls in my squad, but I know a lot of girls did less pushups and situps than I did. One girl in another company did 7 pull ups, though. The longest distance was about 2-3 miles. They like to lie. ;)

SIR! THE MISSION OF THE UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY IS TO...

Develop Midshipman morally, mentally, and physically, and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor, and loyalty in order to provide graduates dedicated to a career in naval service and with potential for future development in the areas of mind and character to assume the highest responsibilities of command, cititzenship, and government, SIR!

And yes, I can say that in less than 15 seconds now- believe me, you will be able to, as well!

P.S. They give you a sheet at theb beginning of the week with all the stuff you need to know- the sooner you get to know it, the better.

dictatoranna, what company/platoon were you in?

I was in Delta 4 1! Hoo-rah!

Hey, these were my CFA results and they were fine (passing) in all categories and pretty good in others.

Basketball throw: 69 feet
Pull Ups: 11
Shuttle Run: 8.2 sec
Curl-ups: (max) 95
Push-ups: (max) 75
Mile run: 6:18 (Initially, I wasn't pleased with this score, but after you consider all you had done in the past 30 minutes, it wasn't sooo bad. Besides, like dictatoranna said, I think everyone ran a personal worst)
