Ouch. Did you mean that you didn't get into USNA? And she did?...

ng10

Actually I'm not sure if she got in or not... from what she told me, her stats looked pretty good.

just for cute guys..... what has this world come to , where people that look good on paper can take advantage of thie kind of system......
ZN

playboy magazine ranked us 1st/3rd (dont remember exactly) on the list of hottest guys among colleges... mwaha (obviously this doesnt justify that girl's motives for applying)

There are many hott guys that go to the academy dont get me wrong...its no lie that any guy looks good in a uniform!!!! But that shouldn't be the reason to choose the academy. I dont understand people, for example the girl in SpiderMD's SS, that dont plan to go fully through with it, those who only do it to see if they can get accepted and then leave. She might have got accepted and planed to leave after Plebe Summer when someone that really wanted to be at the USNA and stay all four years wasnt offered the opportunity to do so. Is that fair, when people "just go to see hott guys or to see if they can get in and," to the rest of us who may truly want to go to the USNA for a reason and serve our country never get the chance?!?! I dont think so! but it happens. A person should have bigger n better things on their mind then just the hott guys! But what do I no....~Gina

Does anyone know how many people applied to the Summer Sem.? Or how many people get appointments for the next year? (I hope this question wasn't already asked, I forget if i saw it already so I figured id ask agian)

only things i know that indirectly address your question are...
1. it is harder to get into sum sem than the academy
2. over half of the people at sum sem will accept appointments

how is it harder to get into the summer seminar if the NASS accepts 1800 and 1200 get appointments? j/w. i got waitlisted for NASS and im bumbed but im going to SLS so maybe ill see some of you there

not as much of the "whole-person" deal goes into your NASS app... two huge things are class rank and psat score. this definitely makes it tougher for some folks.

last post for awhile... gone til saturday.

I recieved an email from captain leahy today,
"Dear Summer Seminar candidate,

Thank you for your interest in the Naval Academy Summer Seminar and
your perseverance with the wait list process. Unfortunately, I can not
make any additional offers of acceptance. I wish you the best of luck
with your summer activities and the USNA admissions cycle. "
From the heading, It seems like there were alot of people on this waitlist. It just sounds too generic. Did anyone else recieve any other email? Maybe got in? Thanks
ZN

i got the same one
bummer

Don't be too bummed out about not getting into the seminar. I did not get in it either and there's less than a handful of people I know that went. It's not a big deal but I can understand the disapointment at first.

My son didn't get accepted to NASS but got an appointment. Don't stress over it.

Hey, everyone.

Congrats to all those who got in to NASS 2005- I'll see you all there in June. Anyone else going from Central New York?
Post one if you are.

Coming from ATL.

I'm attending session one (June 4-9)! I applied the week of the deadline (stats below) and got my acceptance letter in mid-April. I got a final confirmation the first week of May. Through reading a few of these pages, it looks like I'm going to enjoy myself.

GPA: 4.0
ACT (Plus Writing): 29 (converts to an SAT 1310) - My only try; I have yet to take the new SAT. I'd have to look up my PSAT scores again.
Class Rank: top 5% (of about 115) - I attend a prep school.
Courses: AP English, AP US History, Honors Chemistry. - Basically, any honors or AP class avaliable so far.
EC: 3 years of varsity track and cross country. Team captain one year in cross country. Region and state placement in track and cross country all three years. Coached myself one season in track and one season in cross country. I'm trying to help get a Venture Crew started.

As for personal training, I run every day (4, 6, 8, 10, 18, 20 miles, depending on the day), and I do my ab work religiously (morning, after running, before bed). However, I'm not that strong on the upper body strength. I try to do pull ups when I'm in the weight room. I do push ups every day, but I'm not sure what the military calls a push up. I have a few ideas:
1. 90 degree angle, then push up, as quick as possible for two minutes.
2. 90 degree angle, hold for ten seconds, push up for five, and then down again.
3. Make a diamond with your hands, go down as far as possible, hold, and push up.
Which one is the "correct" push up? I've been meaning to get on a weight-lifting routine too. Any suggestions? Plus, how well does one have to swim for the Summer Seminar? I'm not very physically intimidating (5'1", 95-100 lbs.), so how does that play into the USNA application process? I'm a girl who thinks she can do anything (cross country teaches mind over body), and I'll keep at it until I succeed (or pass out, which hasn't happened yet).

Acceptance to Summer seminar is meaningless.....

I was accepted to IAW (USMA's summer seminar) and I got an award for leadership there, but I only got the AOG scholarship, kidna like the prep school

I was rejected to the USNA summer seminar, I didn't have a nomination, but they gave me an applointment and was willing to help find one for me if I was going to accept the appointment.

don't stress over the summer seminar, if you get in, go have fun, if not start getten ready for probably the longest application processes ever conceived by man

tbby2,
what are your stat's? Just curious why you weren't competative for NASS, but they were trying to go out of their way to get you into USNA? THanks,
ZN

I'm with tbby2 in that it is much harder to get into the SS than it is to the academy... granted I don't have any numbers to back this up but if you want I'll try and do some research. But yeah I was "waitlisted" for SS back 2 years ago and then was dropped into the last week about 6 days before it started. I was then declined an appointment for 2 years so it all depends on your region/district and how competitive it is and what the pool of applicants looks like at the time. I hope all this made sense and wasn't just a bunch of ramblings... I've been studying all day for my finals (last one tmw!!!) Then its down hill during the summer...

Edit: Forgot to add... dictatoranna
A military push-up... Place hands shoulder width apart. Lower yourself down to about 4-5 in. above the ground then push yourself back up to arms length off ground. Do this as many times as you can in 2 mins for the physical fitness test. The most I've done in this time is 83... I've found the best exercise for this is placing a medicine ball (or anything else that raises one hand up about 4-6 inches) under one hand and doing as many push-ups as you can... repeat with the other hand. This will build up the core muscules in your shoulder allowing you to do more and more normal push-ups before becoming fatigued.

i think the reason why some people got rejected from summer seminar and still got in was that many kids with good academics get into summer seminar, but while they are there, they realize its not for them. others who go to summer seminar don't work hard and get bad evaluations from their squad leaders which hurts their admissions chances. these two possibilities open up spots for other people who werent excepted.
