yeah i guess they have to be looking at everything on our apps then because we're in the mid range huh? because how else would they decide...hm. well it's just irritating having to wait. hate itt!!

I just took the SAT's again yesterday. Hopefully I did well enough to be more qualified for Summer Session.
And seeing as some of the borderline students being rejected so early, maybe this SAT time stall may work in my favor.. who knows..

well some of those borderline students were OOS. and we knew nothing of their EC history or what they did past there GPA and sat

yeah and they had lower SAT's than all of us. at least i think so. one had like a 3.6 or 3.7 but they had like a 1080/1600.

"well some of those borderline students were OOS."

I actually don't think in state or OOS matters. Residency is not even a a factor in admission decisions
Per the College Board website:

Very important admission factors:
Standardized Test Scores
Academic GPA
Important admission factors:
Rigor of secondary school record
Considered:
Alumni Relation
Character/Personal Qualities
Class Rank
Application Essay
Extracurricular Activities
Recommendations
Talent/Ability
Volunteer Work
Work Experience

I think I remember reading that Hayze ( who was denied) only had 2 lab sciences-- you see that rigor of secondary record is VERY important; You can have a good GPA but if your classes are easy they see through that; at least I'm hoping that in my case :-). I have a 92.5 gpa and I do take harder classes than most. I have calculus, and have my fourth lab science this year (AP bio) and my fourth year of Spanish, as well as AP English. I'm hoping that will overcome my mediocre SAT scores 1660/2400 ( and my dad is an alum!!). I applied summer/DUS

i have a lower SAT score than the kids who were denied, but im in state and my gpa was higher than both, they said theres were < 3.6. my GPA is .12 higher which is better and my transcript shows that i way more A's then B's. And i have had 9 Honors classes over the years and 1 AP this year, so my rigorous schedule will help

My GPA is UNWEIGHTED 3.45/4.0 and I've had 8 honors courses and 2 APs, varsity tennis all 4 years and was captain this year, JV sailing, JV track, Spanish award, Voice of Democracy finalist, International Club, Yearbook Editor, Environmental Club, Hundreds of hours of community service, jobs all three years, fantastic teacher recs and SAT is 1760/2400, 1180/1600. I'm an OOS and applied in early October. Did NOT put an alternate campus and put NO for summer............I'm still waiting!!!!

But, my class rank is in the 27% (Highly competitive public HS)

You say residency is not a factor, but admission for In-state students may still be biased. (Like a Homefield Advantage kind-of-thing). A computer isn't picking the students you know.

its tough, because you could get someone who is veiwing your application and could be in a bad mood or something, and then deny you if you are borderline, or get someone who believes you can do well at UP and accept you. its tough to understand what type of mood they will in. Also is emailing the admissions people to ask if they made a decision a good thing or shoudl i just leave well enough alone?

I cant imagine i would not get in b/c of someone in a bad mood...i also think there must be multiple people looking at an application but i could be wrong

yea i really have no idea, i could just imagine that happening to me cause i think of the worst possibilities haha

Yeah, for that very reason I think they have multiple people looking at an app. I wouldn't worry about that.

I didn't get in to UP...only Altoona. I found out today online

ah im sorry to hear that spacemonkey. it sucks 2/3 of the decision is based on GPA and not SAT's. cause your SAT's were amazing.

and cbd, i applied for summer DUS too! haha hopefully we both get in
lastly, yes i would imagine that multiple people look at the app. and as for the "home field advantage" thing..well there is possbility and there isnt. state residency doesn't matter i dont think but they know more about PA schools and their reputation within PA. a student in state could have a mediocre GPA but their school could have a good or bad rep. if they know its a better school with great academics, they may accept them. my school has a great reputation with them which i hope helps me.

So sorry Spacemonkey.....with your stats, I am very surprised. Will you go to Altuna?

im soo glad my GPA is a 3.72, cause if it wasnt i would have been denied already. hopefully ill still get summer. wait spacemonkey, you found out online first and not through the mail?

yeah, it was online today, but i haven't gotten a letter yet

wow thats weird, can you post what it said on the online thing?

My D's was posted online too she hasnt gotten a letter yet..When she logs in it says congrats you have been accepted to PSU Berks or whatever...
