Summer Storage Suggestions

Hello, can anyone share information on the best summer storage options for current students? Safe, clean…Thanks!

Canela, has your D asked her dormmates or friends what they are doing? From what I hear there is a self storage place very close to campus. My D is sharing one with several friends, and her cost for the summer is only $60. I’ve heard they also have limited storage in the basements of some dorms. Why don’t you call the school, I’m sure they would have good suggestions.

D stored her stuff in the dorm over the and school year when she was at Study Abroad. The one problem with that was that the college decided to cull in order to free up more room for other kids. The took all the refrigerators that were stored and gave them to charity. I guess they are still used to the kids who can afford that, but for others…Anyway, one year, when dorm storage was too limited, we rented a small storage unit and it was very cost effective.

To quote the sign hanging in my dorm:

“All furniture and bulk items are not allowed in college storage.
This includes but is NOT limited to: futons, lofts, raw wood, bars, microwaves, beds, large televisions, refrigerators, grills, chairs, leather desk chairs, large carpets/rugs, end tables, etc…
All items found will be disposed of, recycled, or given to charity”

You can go ahead and store things on the list, but you are given fair warning that your stuff may be gone when you get back. There is plenty of self storage in the area, but at this point the small, affordable units are probably gone. There are some companies that charge by item and will pick stuff up for you (5 college storage and MA storage come to mind), but other than that your best bet would be to go in with a group of people and get a big storage unit.
