So i'm down to my last two or three choices.

It comes down to SUNY vs. Private. I got enough financial aid for the private school so that price really isn't a big factor.

Basically I was accepted to both SUNY Geneseo and College of St.Rose.

Geneseo has the prestige and I loved the campus alot but at the same time i'm hearing that it is incredibly competitive and ultimately it is still a state school with lots of good students going in as pre-med. This would really make it difficult for me to do well and ultimately my chances at med school might suffer.

St.Rose is tier 1 but not really mentioned much it seems. My parents don't want me going here just because Geneseo was more selective but i'm not sure if I should dismiss it too quickly. It is located closer to home and has a smaller student body than Geneseo.
As a biology major, I could probably get a higher GPA since it is less competitive which would really help my chance for medical school if I applied.

Obviously one has a much better reputation and ranking...but as a pre-med would St.Rose maybe be the smarter choice?

My other options with Ithaca College and SUNY Stony Brook but I have ruled those out.

Do undergrad pre-med students ever get the opportunity to volunteer or intern in medical or science situations? If so, check out what kind of internships does St. Rose offer? There are a LOT of hospitals in the Albany area, and if St. Rose has connections with any of them to place students in interships, that would be a factor worth considering.

Go to where you feel comfortable and to where you feel you will have the most academic success. If you go out of state to med school Geneseo and St. Rose will be on the same level insofar as prestige and reputation are concerned. Geneseo is not well known outside of New York State.

If you were planning to go into teaching I would say St. Rose hands down. But for biology (pre-med)? I think Geneseo gets the nod, in part because you will be measuring yourself against more academically adept classmates in a more academically challenging environment. If you really see yourself applying to med school you will relish that challenge.

I’m currently a Saint Rose student and transferring. I like it here, but it’s really a teaching school, thats what its good for. I am a poli sci/his major planning on going to law school. The school doesn’t offer any great internships, and if you find your own I found that they weren’t all that helpful. This is just my experience I have plenty of friends who love Saint Rose. In my opinion if you go to Geneseo or Saint Rose for around the same price, choose Geneseo
