Hi I am currently a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin and I applied to transfer to Michigan LSA (BA psychology) for the winter 2018 term. I have a 3.4 GPA (I know it’s low but I was told to not be too nervous because of the reputation UT has?) and 50-60 credits with EC such as best buddies, an org for raising money for the children’s hospital, and my sorority philanthropy activities. Both of my grandparents graduated from michigan, my step grandfather did post doc there, two aunts are professors of psychiatry (one is writing a nonacademic rec letter) and this summer I worked for a summer camp through Michigan alumni association and my boss is also writing a noacademic rec letter (I have an academic recommendation from a teacher I had last year). I also have all of the basic requirements (gov, math, humanities, english, fine arts etc.) but not a foreign language. I think my essays were pretty good too. How worried should I be that I wont get in? GPA is really scaring me, if I don’t get in this semester I am applying again for fall 2018 and will hopefully have a better GPA. Please help me thank y’all so much
If at all possible, you should attend this event: http://lsa.umich.edu/psych/news-events/all-events.detail.html/43433-9762899.html
Look through this list of requirements and make sure your credits transfer. http://lsa.umich.edu/content/dam/psychassets/psychdocuments/majorinpsychdocuments/PsychologyConcWS.6.1.16.fillable.updated9.12.17.pdf Because Psych is part of LSA, you will need a four term proficiency of the same foreign language. (or the ability to test out of them)
Do I need four semesters before I am even eligible for admission??? Foreign languages are usually only available for upper classmen at my University now /:
