Supplemental Letter of Recommendation

I applied to MIT regular decision for the class of 2018. I've already sent in everything. However, it recently occurred to me that it might help to submit a supplemental letter of recommendation from my cross country coach; she knows me well. My question is, it's a month after the application deadline, and supplemental recommendations aren't required (though it might possibly help), so would it be worth it to submit the letter from my cross country coach now? Or would it hurt me because it's so late?

I believe you can keep sending supplemental material. I once email Chris if I could send research abstracts, he said it was fine.

It certainly won’t hurt you to submit extra material late – the worst-case consequence is that it won’t arrive in time for consideration. But it’s not too late at this point for consideration, although you should definitely have your coach send the letter quite soon if you decide you want to send it.

Thanks for the advice! One more thing though: The supplemental document cover sheet that you have to attach to all supplemental documents says “all materials postmarked by January 1”. Should I disregard that and submit this additional document anyway?

Yes , disregard the deadline thing. Also, you should consider having the coach fax the letter instead of mailing it. The fax number is on the cover sheet.
