I got an email from ucsd asking me to complete supplemental review questionnaire, which is due today, and I have no idea how to answer it. The question is asking about my personal circumstance that have hampered my ability to achieve academically thus far.
I am an immigrant; I moved to the united states three years ago. I was in ESL class in my freshmen year.
My act score is horrible. I honestly think I have no chance of getting into ucsd, but now they’re asking me to answer their question. What does this mean?
My GPA “wasn’t” bad. But it wasn’t great either. I had one C from one honors class and had cumulative gpa 4.04. I’m saying it “wasn’t” bad because now it is bad. I got a D from honors class at this first semester.
How should I answer the question? I have lots of things going on, and I don’t think I’m ready to wrap it up and say, “yes, I am going to succeed in ucsd because I overcame my certain circumstances.”
I only mentioned about my immigration in my application. Other than my immigration, I was abused by my mother for a long time when I was young; my mother and I fought everyday last year because of it, and we are still fighting. This is why I got C from one honors class.
The D I got from honors class this year is mainly because of my language deficiency.
Which personal circumstance should I bring up to answer the question? Should I say about my immigration, or the conflicts I had with my mom? Should I say both?
