Support Thread for Deferred Applicants

@airspirit, slightly random question (lol), but what did you put as the subject for your Letter of Continued Interest? :smiley:

@jamesjunkersā€Œ I put my ā€œNameā€“Letter of Continued Interestā€ hah

@airspirit, lol thanks :slight_smile:

@airspirit, can you copy paste the email the college sent back to you after relieving your letter of continued interest? Mine was an automated response, and it was weird, because it kind of said I have to upload it elsewhereā€¦

@jamesjunkersā€Œ Yeah, sure. Their reply said:

"Dear [my name],

Thank you for your continued interest in the ILR School. This email will be added to your application profile for review.

You are welcome to call or email the admissions office if you have any questions.

Best,

ILR Undergraduate Admissions
ILR School, Cornell University"

@airspirit, ugh, mine was just a stupid automated response that sounded like my email is going in the garbage, Iā€™ll call tomorrow

So guys how were your second quarter grades are you feeling confident?

@Zenithar143, my second quarter average was about 0.08 points lower than my first quarter average (which I had sent go Cornell in Nov.), however this is on a 100 point scale, and my midyear report is 7 points higher than my cumulative high school GPA :D, so overall, Iā€™m pretty confident (in my grades, at least)

@Zenithar143ā€Œ Mine overall stayed around the same (~96). Maybe very slightly lower during my second quarter but thatā€™s because of the senioritis thatā€™s kicking in :stuck_out_tongue:

My GC wonā€™t be sending my second quarter grades till after winter breakā€¦UGH.

Curious, is Cornell still your #1 (not directed at anyone in particular)? I have people in my school who were deferred ED from various schools (Cornell included), and now that school has dropped significantly on their list. I just donā€™t get that - I applied ED because I loved Cornell, that hasnā€™t changed :slight_smile:

@jamesjunkersā€Œ Iā€™ve probably wanted to go to Cornell since 1st grade, so itā€™s still definitely on the top of my list. After I got deferred, it made me want to go even more. However, Iā€™m starting to branch out nowadays. Penn is slowly climbing up my list haha

Yea same @airspiritā€Œ same itā€™s still my number one but Iā€™m worried because my grades havenā€™t been that great (90 first quarter 91 second quarter). Hopefully ILR will forgive me :smiley:

@Zenithar143, how do those compare to your junior year grades?

@jamesjunkersā€Œ Junior year I had a 93 95 93 and 92 so lower why?

@Zenithar143, I was just curious how it compared - - I wouldnā€™t worry too much, itā€™s only slightly lower, and youā€™re probably taking a difficult course load. Iā€™m sure youā€™ll be okay

@jamesjunkersā€Œ I hope so thx man

February is the worst part of the waiting game because by the following month youā€™ll start hearing back from your other schools, and can hopefully forget about Cornell until Ivy Day. :-SS

My school graded on a different system, but last year I had approximately an 84-85 average first semester compared to my usual 95 (yikes, I know). Cornell doesnā€™t appear to evaluate midyear reports too closely and I have no idea what they do with deferred applicants, but most of us seemed to have gotten in off the waitlist or received GTā€™s, so hopefully you guys will be fine too.

Edit: I think I mightā€™ve posted about this beforeā€¦sorry. If anything, consider it a bump haha. Good luck, everyone!

After looking around past CC threads, I feel like most deferred (and especially legacy) applicants get the GT offer. Sighā€¦one more month till Iā€™ll know my fate.

To whom did you address the letter of continued interest?

I did not write one. X_X
