Are transfers also placed according to Undergrad Colleges? If so, how do you know which one you'll be placed in. Because I can't seem to find anything about that. All the info I can find is about Living Learning Centers or something to that effect and I opted out of participating in that as I'm uninterested at the moment. My major will be Social Work and I'm coming in as a Junior. Any ideas about where I might be living? I would call the school, but it seems a little on the unimportant side. I'd just like to have an idea to maybe read up on the place ahead of time. Thanks in advance.

Yes.

Ask someone at the office or something. I don’t know if they’ll give it to you.

It is on the certainly on the important side, not unimportant. Do you want to get stuck in a bad dorm?

No, the Undergraduate Colleges are freshman-only programs. You’re more than welcome to participate in the programming, but you’re not officially affiliated with the College in your quad.

Chris

You’re right, I wouldn’t want to get stuck in a bad dorm. But if housing assignments become available to students towards the end of August, there doesn’t seem to be much room for adjustment before move-in. But, yeah, I guess I should call. Hah, now I’m nervous. Thanks for both responses.

The deal is, whatever they give you, you have to accept. You don’t have a choice. After that there is a grace period(I think it is 10 days) during which you cannot do anything about your assignment. After that, requests to have your room changed will be accepted if you have a legitimate reason or issue with your room.

Aha, good to know. Thanks.

So, would my placement being the exact opposite of what I had requested in my New Student Preferences fall into the legitimate issue with my room category? Because that’s how it’s looking at the moment.

You don’t know until you get it. But keep in mind that the housing situation is abysmal. Most freshmen are tipled in rooms that are small even as doubles. So, I don’t think they will be too accomodating. Wait and see what your roomate is like before freaking out, you might like it after all.

–> One more thing, the grace period I mentioned is once classes start. So, after aug 31st, you will need to wait two weeks(I am not sure, but that seems right) before making a request. Either way you have to move in the original room. I know this because I had to switch rooms at one point.

We fit transfers in where we can; unfortunately, it’s hard to guarantee everyone the choices they put on the NSP form. We do the best we can, but especially with transfers, it’s simply a matter of finding space.

Chris

chris at sbuadmissions, when do transfer students hear whether there are any rooms at all?

Yeah, the situation was pretty much rectified. But, soooo now I have a new question. When do we hear about roommates so we can start coordinating who brings what? And how (a letter, email, SOLAR system)?

Apparently we will get an email near the end of the month with the housing info. Though theres still ways to cheat to find out your room ^^

What do you mean “cheat”? Do you mean find out ahead of time? I’ve telephoned three times since early July and have been told “by July 15,” then “within 7 days,” then “within 7 to10 days.” It is getting nerve wracking because if there is no room, other arrangements have to be made.

Yeah, I saw yr post. I found out my college/room, but nothing about roommates, so I’ll keep looking for that email.

I’ll try to find out what’s up from housing tomorrow; I’ll post what I discover.

Chris

I’d love to know how you guys found out whether or not you have recieved housing already…It’s late July and I STILL haven’t gotten a response from them…

Chris, can you find out when they expect to get to the waitlist for people that want to come in as well? They told me march but that is the worst time conceivable because everyone wants you to sign a lease if you go off campus.

Thanks!!

Okay, here’s the deal. They’ve started housing transfers, but not everyone has been assigned yet. If you haven’t heard anything, call Campus Residences at 631-632-6750 and they can tell you what’s up.

Frasi- No word on the housing waitlist yet.

Chris

Have any transfer students heard about their housing assignments yet?

My son who is a transfer student has still to hear about an actual room assignment. He had been told to expect an assignment last week. The frustration continues…
