Hey I'm looking to apply to UCs next year, but I since I'm coming from far away, I want to have a decent social life; I don't want to be alone with nothing to do. So I was hoping that some of you could answer my questions:

1)Is UCSC mostly a commuter school?
2) Are weekends boring?
3) Do students often go home on weekends?
4) If you usually live on campus and don't go home, then what do you do for fun on weekends?
5) About what percentage of freshmen live on campus?
6) About what percentage of undergrads live on campus?

Ill just say that we aren’t that different from most schools. No the weekends are not boring, yes we party.

1) Absolutely not a commuter school. Lots of kids live far off campus in the town though.
2) Weekends are not boring at all, but there is a difference on campus. way less people, but thats cause no one is walking to class.
3) Depends. I think a good amount go home if theyre from San Jose/SF Bay area, but most of the kids seem to be from L.A. and therefore can’t go home all the time.
4) On the weekends you can: go to the beach, go downtown, see movies, take hikes, take a bus to San Jose and then CalTrain to San Francisco and if you have zipcar you can explore the area. Weekends at UCSC are what you make them.
5) Not sure about percentage. Probably like 90% on campus.
6) After about sophomore year most kids live off campus.
