Swim Test

Ugh. I bet the athletic recruitments breeze right through the swim test (and the guys probably flex their muscle and show off). They’d probably laugh at the less competent swimmers…

Sooooooo I know this is really pathetic but I actually never learned how to swim. I’m gonna try learning the spring/summer before but if that doesn’t work out do I just tell the people there that I need to make swimming my P.E. class (i.e. I don’t have to try to pass it when I know I can’t)? If I don’t learn how to swim in time then will I be like the only freshman there who has to take swimming as a class? I mean, I know that it’s a huge class but it just seems like I’m the only one who can’t swim, or at least that’s how I feel. And what happens if I fail that class? Do i have to take it over and over again until I can pass the swim test??? What if I never pass it??!!??? Freaking out just a little bit here!

Yeah you’ll be stuck as a freshman forever and die without ever being a bachelor

I’m scared about the swimming backwards portion of the test O_O I need to learn how to do that… I can swim normally (IMO normally is forwards haha)

try doing it like breaststroke. Point your feet in the direction that you want to go and push your hands up like how your legs go in breaststroke.
(I’d love to see that)

hahaha that would look so pathetic. I think I’ll just practice backstrokes, but first, I have to get into Cornell.

hey krmh you’re not even the only person on this thread that can’t swim. I never learned either. :frowning:
here is what I found about the beginner swim class.
[Cornell Physical Education: Aquatics](<a href=“Physical Education | Cornell University”>Physical Education | Cornell University)
There are a lot of sections listed, so that either means that there is a lot of demand (and we are therefore far from alone) or that the classes are small (which would also be good news).
I have a team of friends who swear that they will be able to teach me this summer, but I’m not too optimistic about that plan. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m in this class come fall.

In addition you don’t have to attempt the swim test if you enroll in beginner swimming for your PE class (PE 1100)

Well at least I’m not alone. I just really rather not take swimming, plus I’m worried about passing the test even after I take the class. This is the only thing I hate about Cornell :(
