I am moving in on 9/25, and class starts on 10/2.

If I swipe my BruinCard at the residential restaurants before 10/2, will I be using up my meal plan swipes, and consequently, have fewer than 19 meals per week once the quarter actually begins? (I have Bruin Premiere 19)

Also, word on the street is that students get to swipe in their parents for free during move-in. Can anyone confirm this?

If you swipe your BruinCard before 10/2, you will use meal plan swipes (You can check out how many swipes you have left by peering over at the “cash register” display. It will show a number and that’s what you have left. You can also ask when you swipe how many you have left).

Premier meal plans have all their swipes allocated at the start of the quarter. For example, you probably start off with something in the 200 range of swipes in September. Each meal will deduct from this number, so you do not have to count how many swipes are left for the week. You just have a huge number that will get smaller as the quarter progresses. The regular (non-Premier) meal plans have a certain number of swipes per week (for example, use 14 swipes each week, or lose them at the end of the week).

Students get a certain number of free swipes for family during the move-in weekend. I forgot what the specifics are, but it’s something like 3 additional swipes for parents and a sibling during the weekend. You can ask, but with 19 Premier, keeping track of your swipes shouldn’t be an issue. Usually it’s finding a way to use them all up by the end of the quarter (e.g. swiping friends with less generous meal plans, having pizza parties from De Neve Late Nite for your dorm floor). The reality of being a student is that you probably will not have the time or energy to go back to the dorms for each and every meal. Therefore you might end up buying something on-campus in a restaurant. You can also factor in eating off-campus. So have 19P is usually in excess.

Thanks for the info!

I’m still 99% sure that I will use up all my swipes though
