Switch from Bioengineering to Electrical Engineering

Hi, I was admitted yesterday (found out online) and today I received my Congrats you got in packet and I was admitted into the college of engineering in the major of Bioengineering and I was wondering if it was possible for me to switch my major to Electrical Engineering? Thank you for reading this!

it’s within the college of engineering, I’m sure it’s not a big problem. you could probably even talk to your advisor during CalSO

What’s CalSO what date is it?

CalSO is your student orientation. see myberkeleyapp. the date is during the summer…and it depends on which one you sign up for. In general, try to get the earlier ones in early June, so that you can enroll in your first 10.5 units before all the other freshmen.

But yeah you can talk to your advisor during CalSO and probably even have your major changed then.

my advisor told me they dont let anyone switch right away. you can petition to switch after a year. and especially since you are trying to get into EECS…they need berkeley grades to support that. But don’t worry, the first year classes overlap a lot. Just take your math and physics classes and cs61A, i know those all transfer for sure. idk if EECS needs chem, but take some of the classes needed for EECS, it will strengthen your petition. and GET GOOD GRADES! (much easier said than done).

Just take your standard courses and do well. EECS does not need chem in particular, but it does need a couple hard sciences in addition to Physics 7B. You can get all your questions answered in detail at CalSO.

All the basic engineering lower divs overlap, so just look at the requirements for both majors and play it out for a year.
