Switch to engineering to mctinre

is there any way to switch to mctire or seas after the first year just in case?
what would be the recommended classes for a freshman planning to swithc into engineering Would this affect graduation and job offers?

McIntire you can only apply to in Second year so you can’t be there for first year. You go there for third year.

Engineering you can basically take the same classes a normal engineering student would take and transfer after first year or even first semester. I would say both of these schools would get you better job offers than CAS sometimes. These are specialized and they prepare you for jobs.

Agreed. If you’re going for SEAS second year, just look up the first-year SEAS curriculum and fullfill as much as you can. The courses you’ll need are Chem/Physics I (both are in the College, so they’re easy to take) Humanities elective (basically anything not math/science), CS101 (you can take if you’re in the College), two semesters of math (if you can’t do APMA, just take the MATH versions…it’s all the same math i’m pretty sure). The only classes that might give you trouble are ENGR162 (not a prereq for anything, so if you can’t do it first year just take it during an unrestricted elective later in school and take some other class instead), STS101 (dunno if it’s open to College…I took it 2nd year, no sweat), and a science elective (if you want an e-school class…you can take bio or chem though).
For McIntire, you apply during your second year. There’s prereqs you have to full fill before then, but almost everyone in McIntire comes from the College, so your advisor will know everything.
Best suggestion? Talk to your advisor. Try to set a plan, especially if you’re going e-school. Look at what you need and what you can full fill first year and switch things around. There’s no reason you can’t move around basic classes/electives.
