My HS junior daughter is interested in majoring in general biology, but she is not 100% sure. She has the stats to get accepted. If she is accepted into biology and changes her mind, how difficult is it to switch to another major? (Possibly English) I know some majors are LEP. My guess is that LEP is more difficult to switch to. How difficult is it to switch to a LEP major or a non-LEP major as a freshman?

Switching to a non-LEP major is very easy. Switching to an LEP may require waiting a certain # of semesters (depends on the LEP) and will require good grades. I’d think she’d want to apply for the biology LEP if that’s what she’s interested in. The statistics on the % of students that change their majors (country-wide) is mind-boggling…a very, very common occurrence and not a bit deal.

Thanks Astrophysicsmom. I think she’ll apply for biology LEP. Yesterday I read something about students may only apply for one LEP program during their enrollment at UMCP. Have you heard of that policy?
