Got accepted to Electrical Engineering in ECE Dept, but I didn't really wanted it

My 1st choice major was Computer Engineering, but UCSD accepted me and put me into my 2nd choice major which was Electrical Engineering.

Anyone know if it is possible once school starts for me to switch over to Computer Engineering? It is an impacted major according to the UCSD website. Is switching over to CE even possible?

as far as I know, you will not be able to switch into an impacted major. :X

I suggest contacting the engineering admissions department and asking them about this. These are two completely different fields so you should make sure you end up in the one you're most interested in. If they said a switch a quarter or two out would be allowed then you're probably okay since many of the first classes can count for the other.

You will have to take certain courses (im not exactly sure which ones to go into CE), get good grades in them, and then apply to the major.

you have to get "exceptional grades" in screening courses (maybe 2.8 and above) and apply to computer engineering.

and then maybe you will get into computer engineering

Are you guys familiar with the process or are you guessing?

nate cali, I agree with ucsducladad. Call the school and get information straight from the source.

Here is the info you are looking for. It describes the admissions process for continuing students (you will be one when you will be applying) to transfer from their current majors to Computer Engineering. There is also a link to the application, so good luck with getting into the program.
