I was recently admitted to Rutgers Psychology program in the School of Arts and Sciences, but declined from the Business School.

I went to visit Rutgers last month and I wasn't too impressed. The school was huge, the bus tour was extremely vague and just made Rutgers seem like a gigantic mosh pit. One thing I did pick up on from the tour was that they have a lot of great companies who look to Rutgers to recruit. I've been hesitant about considering Rutgers ever since.

Would it be hard to switch into the Business school during my time at Rutgers if I were to accept admission into School of Arts and Sciences?

I am confused. Do you understand that Rutgers Business School has two campuses, one on Livingston Campus of Rutgers - NV and the other in Rutgers - Newark? If you are telling me that you didn’t like Rutgers bus system, then I’m guessing you meant don’t like Rutgers - NB…which I guess eliminates Rutgers Business School on Livingston campus.

That leaves you with Rutgers - Newark. If you wanted to get into Rutgers business school in Newark, why did you even apply to Rutgers - NB?

"The Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate New Brunswick offers six majors leading to the Bachelor of Science degree: accounting (010), finance (390), management (620), management science and information systems (business analytics and information technology) (623), marketing (630), and supply chain and marketing science (799). School-to-school transfer students are admitted into the second and third years of the program, upon meeting specific course and GPA requirements.

Admission is competitive, based on a limited number of seats available for the fall 2013 semester. Therefore, the criteria outlined below are minimum requirements and do not guarantee admission to the Rutgers Business School-New Brunswick (RBS-NB) undergraduate program. It is the student’s responsibility to be familiar with all relevant information."

Rutgers is definitely huge. If you don’t like that, it’s going to be a long road for you. Otherwise, yes, lots of good companies recruit at Rutgers, and I think it provides a good education, especially for the money. They don’t hold your hand much so you really have to be prepared to anticipate problems and advocate for yourself when there is one. It is unclear from your post what is bothering you most.

Is it possible to get consideration for another school after already applying and being accepted to one? I applied for psychology in arts in sciences, and didn’t know that I could apply to other schools (I thought by other schools, they meant other campuses like newark or camden…) is it too late to apply for admission into their business school?

imy550 I would call admissions tomorrow and ask them about it. I have heard of other students doing this after mistakenly applying to only 1 school. Explain that you didn’t know that you could apply to more than one school in NB.

lmy - Considering some of them haven’t made decisions yet, it’s definitely worth asking. I’m still under consideration for Mason Gross School of the Arts.

If campus life and student life is important to you, I suggest you avoid Rutgers Newark. I’m currently a student there and the campus is boring and it’s mostly a commuter school. Most student activities and funding for campus events mostly goes to the NB campus. I’m trying to transfer to NB for fall
