OK, so I got into Berkeley (on Regents too, yay!).

Here's the problem....
I applied as a declared Chemistry major in the College of Letters and Sciences, but now I would REALLY like to take the same major except in the College of Chemistry. I know that it is notoriously hard to switch into the Colleges of Chemistry/Engineering once at Berkeley, but I was wondering if there was anything I could do now to try to switch in (would my status as a Regents Scholar help?). Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Props to OP -- same deal here: I applied to CS in L&S, but I'd much rather do EECS in CoE. I'm a Regents Scholar too, and I too was wondering if I could switch before school begins... Any help would be doubly appreciated!

i believe it is impossible to switch majors now, but you could after two semesters at ucb. there are supposed to be some workshops to guide you through this process during the first semester. the application period is somewhere around jan/feb. i heard (not official at all) that switching from cs to eecs will need about a 3.7gpa. this information may not apply to the switch to CoC

Switching into the College of Chemistry is 100% guaranteed during your first semester. This was the case in the 2006-2007 academic year and I don't think the policy has changed. Just talk to the CoC advisor and she'll instruct you on what to do. It's essentially signing papers and doing some course planning. Nothing to worry about.

I switched from Undeclared L&S to Chemistry (in the College of Chemistry) during the summer before I arrived at Berkeley. It is a quite simple task. You need to e-mail Maura Daly, telling her of her situation. She will guide you through the process. Basically you have to submit a couple of forms and write a very brief statement of why you want to change.
