Switching Majors?

I'm new to the forums, this place seems really helpful. I was accepted into Maryland for Computer Science, and I'm interested in switching into the Business school for Management Information Systems. Do I have a better chance of getting into the business school now that I have been accepted to the University in general? I didn't think I would be able to get into the business school with a 3.56 and 1240/1600 even with all honors classes from a magnet school, 3 years of Varsity Tennis, IT internship on wall st, and my own computer repair business. Can somebody help me?

Your high school stats don’t matter, you have to take a few Economics and communication courses like the other business majors have too… and there are A LOT of students who say they are trying to get into the business school…

^ Just wondering, it is possible to take economics courses even if accepted into colleges of chemcial and life sciences, correct? How hard would you say it is to transfer into the business school as someone accepted into UMD Honors program?

Anonymous- If you are serious about switching into the business school, I would contact them (the business school) now, rather than waiting for school to start. Since you were accepted into honors, I think it’s likely they would let you change your major (I know someone accepted into Honors who switched to business a few weeks ago) and I think your life would be easier if you got it changed before the school year starts.

HoComom, I’ll try that. I’m undecided and I think I might have a vague idea of what I want to major in.

Anonymous- Since business is a limited enrollment major, it’s a good idea to get in early if you can. You can always switch out again to a major that isn’t limited enrollment, if that’s what you ultimately decide you want to do.

I know direct admits need at least a 1350 on their SAT’s to get into RHSmith. If you dont get directly admitted, you have to apply around junior year with around a 3.5-3.6 GPA.
