Switching Sports

I'm about to enter high school, and I have a short question (maybe dumb) to ask.

Is it better to have variation in sports, or to stick with one throughout high school, in terms of college applications.

I'm asking this because I love two sports, but they're in the same season (tennis, track).

I've been running in Track for all of middle school (7-8 grade), so I wonder if it will hurt if I change to Tennis.

Don’t quote me on this, but I don’t think Colleges look at middle school sports, or anything about middle school, grades etc… But anyways…, I love tennis too! But my school my cancel it because of budget cuts =.

Do tennis, and if your track event is running related go cross country in the fall.

^^if you’re at a good enough level at your sport some coaches will look at you in middle school like I talked a little bit with a few coaches that are recruiting my sister for the same sport and they were talking to us about being on the team together in the future

Thanks for the replies!

I’ll probably do cross country and tennis like Tenors suggested.

My running events were sprints and the hurdles though, so I’m unsure, haha.

Haha I gave up sprints/hurdles for xc mtbing.

Just do both if your school allows it anyway and if you can handle two sports. Good luck!! I LOVE track, it’s my favorite sport.

Like others have said, colleges don’t look at what sport(s) you have done during middle school.

If you want to switch or not is really up to what you are looking to get out of each sport. If you want to go college level, it will be very hard with any sport. But if you’re just in it for the PE credits, socialization, etc. (which is perfectly fine), it’d be a lot easier deciding. Good luck!

OR do both, winter track and spring tennis. If you’re crazy enough to be a distance runner, there is also fall cross country. Track is easily the most accessible school sport.

Do one sport and become internationally ranked. Otherwise don’t even bother

XC Mtbing sounds so fun ._.

Again, thanks all.

@Abercrombie20, I doubt I could do that. D:
@katica, we don’t have winter track.
@rayna3, I’ll probably want to go college level in tennis. Thanks for the advice!

^ No problem and good luck! I have lots of friends that are/going to play in college. Some are Division I level, but are in Division III (less stressful, I hear).
