Syracuse Audition!

Hi! I have my Syracuse audition on Saturday and I LOVE that school so I’m extremellyyyy nervous. Does anyone know anything about the audition day, like how many students are typically there? How is the room environment? How is the dance call? Anything? FREAKING OUT! AH!!!

Can’t speak for a MT audition since D auditioned Acting only, but the Syracuse audition was one of her favorites. All were nice and she felt like it was a warm environment. Her only complaint was the MT kids were belting it out in the room next to hers as she was auditioning. She carried on but it was a bit distracting. Best of Luck!

Thank you!

Hi everyone! I’m adding to my own post just to say what my experience was!

We did the dance call first. The dance was difficult and there were many extremely talented dancers, but everyone was friendly and had fun together. We had sections where we could improvise and us students often interacted and had fun! There was a surprise second dance after the first dance, so be prepared to keep working when you think you’re done.

We were given an EXTREMELY short time to change from our dancewear into our audition clothes, so (girls especially) should try to wear their hair in a way that works for both settings or is easily changed.

Depending on where you were placed in the regular audition group, you may be waiting a LONG time. We were all in a room together and got to know each other better, but be prepared to possibly wait a long time as there were only two rooms. I was last and my nerves are worse when I am towards the end, so I had trouble managing it. The students are in the room with you to wait and are SO friendly and willing to talk, answer questions, and get to know the students! I even confided in one student about some audition insecurities I had. They were wonderful to have around to ease nerves!

In MY audition room, it was friendly, but very chill and down-to-business. There was another room which apparently was the more excitable room, and my room, which was apparently very calm and straightforward, but nice! On the website, it said to prepare two songs for the audition, so I came with two full songs prepared in case. I asked a lady at the front desk during check in whether they used cuts or full songs and she said “We don’t do any of that stuff, just sing your whole song.” However, when we were in the waiting room, they specifically told us to have cuts about 32 bars. I wanted to clarify this in case anyone else wasn’t sure!

I slated my materials and did my songs back to back, and then my monologue. The two in my room didn’t do any coaching for me, but not everyone gets coached and I don’t even know if they do it at Syracuse. They didn’t ask me any interview questions, but did ask me if I had any questions about the program.

My whole individual audition took about 5-10 minutes including my pieces, slate, questions, and in between time. I hope this was helpful!

thank you so much for this! my auditions on sunday, good luck!
