@Fergie978 - I will ask him tomorrow if he knows anything about the numbers. I think the chat group they have is both MT and Acting (not sure) - so it’s likely double that on the chat - unless some didn’t join. Could you tell from past years when they went to their WL?
@resnick College of Arts and Sciences
@MomofJ5 yes, I see that the group on Facebook is for the entire School of Drama, but unless the students specifically changed their profile to “attending Syracuse Musical Theater”, it is difficult to venture a guess. Let me know if you find out anything. Another Syracuse Acting major told me that she knew 12 that they knew of that had committed for Mt. She wasn’t certain that was correct.
@Fergie978 - S says that this group (I don’t think it’s FB- but I don’t know) is only Actors. He said he didn’t think all of the actors were in the group. So I don’t think that’s useful. I feel like a read some years back about someone who didn’t get in posting that when they were released. That date would be useful to know. I’m really hoping if works out for you and @theaterlove3. Good luck!
Has anyone on the Newhouse waiting list heard anything yet? My hope is that the class is not full. If anyone has any insight, please share. Thanks.
My D just received financial aid info from Syracuse. Feeling hopeful!!!
@theaterlove3 - You did? That is a great sign! We just received an email response with the same old thing… Thanks for your continued interest… You visited, correct? Probably would have been a great thing to do! If it hadn’t been for that darn musical, we would have! Did you say you were Musical Theater or Acting?
@Fergie978 She was redirected to Acting. After much discussion, she would really like to accept at Syracuse if offered. We are a couple hours drive away. That makes three visits between the junior year tour, the audition and then last week. I sure hope they are counting. Wish it were easy for you to get there too!
@theaterlove3 We were there for auditions, so I guess that counts. We saw the theater, but not the campus - because it was snowing that day. Took the virtual tour online. So beautiful! We are about 5 hours away. Not convenient, but not impossible. My requirement for a college to make the list was it had to be under a 6 hour drive! I saw that the Facebook Group page for Syracuse VPA (Theater tech, acitng, musical, etc.) had over 70 people, but it was hard to decipher how many were in what major. They may still be sorting out who will accept. My best guess is that they have enough musical theater people who are willing to pay the incredibly high rising cost of tuition! We accepted another admittance for MT. Did your D accept an offer anywhere else? Hope you hear good news soon!
@Fergie978 Is your D/S on the MT WL? Yes, my D accepted a different MT offer. Syracuse was ranked much higher on her list so we would switch if accepted.
@theaterlove3 My D was waitlisted for MT.
@Fergie978 and @theaterlove3 - one of the kids in my S’s FB group posted a collage of the actors’ headshots. Initially, it had 24 kids, but then he revised it to add one more… so as of now (assuming this kid didn’t miss anyone), they appear to have 25 kids in the acting program. This does NOT apply to MT, though.
@MomofJ5 - I saw that tonight! I was in search of those colleges that posted their classes, and ran across the Syracuse acting class banner! So it looks like there are 25 (pending any changes , because in this point in the game, anyone can still switch to a different school). But we don’t know anything about MT. June 1 is right around the corner, and they are still holding to that date!
After the 1.5 gruesome months of waiting… I was finally accepted into the College of Arts and Sciences on Friday. Very Excited and wish well to all
@MomofJ5 Oh crap. Ok. Good to know.
@theaterlove3 those lists are done by the incoming students. It just doesn’t make sense that they would give you financial aid if you weren’t being considered, does it?
@Fergie978 Agreed that she is still under consideration. My guess is that they are getting things lined up as things change through the month of May. Still hopeful but a good reality check too.
@theaterlove3 - Also, the school probably has experience with committed students coming off waitlist elsewhere, so I agree that it’s still quite possible. Good luck! I’m rooting for you!
Has anyone been accepted off of the waitlist in the last few days? I’m most interested in Newhouse but I’m curious to find out if other schools besides CAS have gone to their waitlists. Hoping there are openings…
My son has not heard back and he is waitlisted for Newhouse.
