For those asking, if you were waitlisted for a certain school you can’t ask them to consider you for another one even if you listed it as a second or third choice. They waitlisted you because they felt that you fit your first choice (or whichever choice) the best. If you accept a spot on the waitlist it is NOT binding!! So if you really want to consider Syracuse still, it’s definitely worth a shot! You can contact them about appeals but from my knowledge I think they only work for straight up denials. Financial aid is only available for admitted students. Know that when colleges look at the waitlist after May 1st, they typical put into consideration one’s financial aid request before making an offer. Essentially, many scholarships may be limited.
For the people who are surprised that they were rejected from their safety, please know that no school is really a safety these days. There are other factors they look at (other than academics) and they look at interest. They want to know that a student really wants to go to their school and plans on using their resources to their advantage. I know from stories that people with lower stats got in because they specified programs and key aspect that they loved about SU. (the diversity, study abroad programs, the business project within Whitman). Also, know that certain majors and colleges within Syracuse are more competitive than others. So while you may have qualified for the school in general, they probably received a lot of applicants for the school of your choice. The average college students apply to today can be about 8-10, making it harder for them to really narrow it down.

It’s not unheard of for them to accept you off the waitlist and than not five you money. Also I looked at last years stats. 5145 peope were offered to join the waitlist. Only 1732 decided to join the waitlist. And 681 were accepted off waitlist. So that’s a 40% acceptance rate off waitlist if this year is similar to last year. There are a lot of people that still got aly of money. It depends on how mch funding they have left. They will still do everything they can to give you wht you need looking from the last few years post. And I don’t think this waitlist is based off anything like gpa. It night me a first come first serve. And jr also depends on ur major. If u got waitlistef for a major with a lot o applicants it’s going to be more competitive. I applied for aerospace engineering. Do you guys think I have a shot. It’s not a popular major right

aerospace engineering isnt a competive major right. Not that many people applied for it. Would that make it easier for me to get off waitlist
A couple of my friends got rejected from newhouse and got into their second choice, but I got wait listed and I do not know about my second choice. It makes no sense
@devilscharger21 it doesn’t have to make sense to you, it’s a complicated and frustrating process that only the admissions office understands. However, you just need to determine whether you want to take a place on the wait list and see what happens. If Newhouse is a top choice you should get on the wait list - you never know. If you have other equal or better options, you should take those. It’s better than a rejection, and the fact that you didn’t get dropped to your second or third choice indicates they see you best at Newhouse, but do not have room right now. Good luck!

@devilscharger21 I agree 100% with @Cameron121 . You were not given an option for your other choices because they felt you best fit your first choice. if they felt that you fit your other choices they would have admitted you into one of those.
Finally heard. Found email in spam. Wait listed at Newhouse. To go on list or not that is the question.
