Syracuse University vs. University at Buffalo - Which is better for pursing a medical degree?

The title says it all. This is my first post on this site and here's my situation -
I've been accepted into both Syracuse University and University at Buffalo. Both are toward the better schools in New York (so i assume) and have pretty good rankings. My question is though, which school has a stronger medicine program? I wish to become a sports medicine doctor, and I wanna know which school will prepare me the best grad school. Any comments are appreciated!

You will be pre-med at both colleges. If you do well, you will get accepted to medical school, which is another four years after college graduation. At this point, you need to think about which is better for pre-medicine, not medicine. I don’t think you can “go wrong,” but Syracuse is likely to have smaller classes sooner in your undergraduate career, which is good for getting letters of recommendation. However, given that you can pick whatever major you want, you may end with a major in Buffalo that has many small classes. Are you in the honors program at either? That would tip the scale toward one or the other.

Think about what other things you want to study if pre-med ends up not working out. Syracuse is better for journalism and business; Buffalo is somewhat better for engineering. You will need to keep your grades up to switch over to any of those fields.

Ubuffalo is good for medical careers and science in general and I believe they have an early assurance program that you may be interested in

Your grades are what will matter the most, as that and the MCAT scores are the major determinants. Something to consider is cost. Unless you come from a deep pocket home, S is going to cost you and your parents most likely a lot more than UB. If you have to borrow, bear in mind that you’ll likely carry those loans through med school and add to them by quite a bit. With interest accruing on them all of those years, those undergrad loans can pack quite a wallop when it comes to repayment, Even for a doctor, when you have the med school amounts added to them.

The other thing is if you change your mind, if there is a money issue in the picture, there is a chance you don’t have to borrow as much at UB as you would for S? Or there isn’t the investment of family funds in your ug, so that if you do go into a different career path that calls for more money, loans, at least your ug education wasn’t so expensive.

If my son had loans right now, he’d be sunk. He would have defaulted on them. That he is loan free allows him to pursue what he wants and live hand to mouth without that loan monkey on his back beating on him.

Thank you for the replies! But is Syracuse’s prestige is not worth the price? I would assume that grad schools or jobs in general would love to see a Syracuse graduate

U Buffalo has an early assurance program into their Med School with a high enough GPA. They will waive the MCAT score and accept you into the Med School provided the grades are right.
