Syracuse vs. Boston University for Public Relations

Hi! I am a current freshman at newhouse in Syracuse. I am currently a PR major. I love newhouse and my classes, however, the Syracuse environment is not for me. I hate being in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do. As much as I love newhouse, I just feel that Syracuse might not be for me. I am very interested in BU because I was given a guaranteed transfer there. I wanted to see if the PR program at BU was comparable to Syracuse’s. At the end of the day, I’m going to school for a job and want to make sure I’m at the right place so I can get where I want to be!

Not sure SU is in the middle of nowhere but it’s true it’s not BU. If you like that environment and can afford to live there then sure.

Both are fine schools but the major leads to low paying jobs and frankly you don’t need to be in the major to get a job in the major.

Make sure you double major.

But to answer your question - BU is urban and if that meets your desire go for it.

I agree that the college you go to doesn’t really matter for that major. There are never any guarantees that you’ll be “in the right place” - as it’s not the “place” but rather the opportunities that you create for yourself.

That said, there may be more internship & job opportunities in a bigger city like Boston - so if you think you’ll be happier there (and can afford to live in that city, as tsbna pointed out), then go for it!
