Syracuse

whats good?

im an applicant that goes to a california cc and i need to know certain logistics about Syracuse.

do they favor New York applicants
is the location close to Time Square
Econ Program?

I know its a private school but it shouldnt favor those from New York right?

Syracuse is in upstate NY, which is not close to Times Square.

I'm from Syracuse, and live about a mile away from the University. It's like 5 hours to NYC, so it's really not close at all.
I do not believe they favor New York applicants, however, a lot of people from the area do apply since it's a well known Division 1 school and it's a good school, but I know PLENTY of people that go there from outside NY and from as far away as California.
Unfortunately, I can't really tell you a lot about the Econ program; I don't think it's a terrible program. But SU is a pretty cool school.....even cooler if you like to party since they throw some really awesome parties.
So, if you're grades are probably around a B or so, they'll most likely take you. They aren't heavily selective.

thanks inthesaac

so they throw good parties? thats cool, since youre from syracuse how is the surrounding areas of the campus? is it nice well developed..exciting?

if i leave california i dont want to be too bored out there

are you serious? B average is good? i really want to take this with a grain of salt but i see hope now..

yeah i peeped some of their stats on collegeboard and their admission process does not seem too selective.

my gpa is well over a B average but i am just sayin

Syracuse is really in a very rural location...there is not much at all around the campus. The weather is cold, snowy and grey much of the school year, so a huge difference from CA.

damn really? collegeboard says urban though?

It is NOT in a rural location. It's a CITY; granted, not a big one, but it's probably a little smaller than Rochester, NY and Buffalo, NY.
Nance the Chance (the Chancellor) is working on integrating the campus more with downtown Syracuse.
From about October to April though, it is kind of grey. It starts snowing early October and probably won't stop until April. Some people really like snow; others not so much.
There is a lot more to do in Syracuse if you're over 21.
It's not NYC or Chicago; but it's not hicktown, USA, either. There is enough to do; I grew up there and around the University.
Honestly, if you have straight up questions about the Syracuse area and the social life on campus, I can probably answer them.

inthesaac...is it possible for me to contact you on AIM or something

im really considering going there at it would be nice to get some facts from someone who lives around the campus...THANKS

blackrepublican- im currently attend syracuse university, and im willing to any questions that you may have.

what were ur high school stats?

qwerty- wat are the pros and cons of attending Syracuse as far as academics student life housing student body girls(if you are not one yourself) lol

pros
-there are parties EVERY weekend and even on thursdays
-its a campus town
-housing is decent if u get an open double or a suite
-diverse student body
-decent dining halls

cons
-WEATHER-i cant emphasize this enough. we've had snow for like a week already. the wind gets crazy. and since ur in CA, u may find it difficult to adjust to the depressing weather
-academics- some classes (eg.bio) requires u to listen to CDs during labs....its not useful at all
-work is too easy if ur writing is decent
-there is nowhere to go if u dont have a car
-student body very segregated. unless u enjoy partying, its hard to meet people

qwerty is right, the weather will be a huge shock if you're coming from LA. there isnt much to do off campus, but athletics is big, the parties are good, and the girls are decent too.

athletics are big, we have a huge dome, the first of its kind actually.
as for the teams, basketball is great, football is crap

is there a shuttle service available? and how useful is it?

yes there is. um there are shuttles from main campus to south campus. there are also shuttles to downtown and to the carousel mall, which is the only place to go really. and its a dollar for the ride. umm...its pretty useful and affordable but the buses downtown/mall are NEVER on time and it takes 45 minutes to get to the mall when it actually on takes 10 minutes to get there.

how regular are the periods the shuttle comes? and does it work all weekdays and weekends?

tell me more about the girls
