I have an opportunity to renew our cell phone contract. T-Mobile seems to have the lowest pricing, but I don't want to switch if DS will have problems with reception on campus.

Any thoughts on pros/cons of service providers?

Also, while on the topic of cell phones, is there a preference on campus for iPhone or Droid, or other?

As a current student with T-Mobile, I can say that T-Mobile reception is incredibly spotty on campus. It’s very tough to get reception indoors, and reception outside is manageable but still sub-par. One advantage of T-Mobile, though, is its ability to use wi-fi as cellphone reception, which can definitely help while indoors. There are a few inconveniences to getting T-Mobile, but if you prefer the cheapest option there are manageable ways to work around it.

As for phones, iPhones are very popular on campus, but I personally vastly prefer the Android interface. Both are fine, but I would recommend a Galaxy phone.

I can’t help you with the T-Mobile part of your question. My S who graduated last year had Verizon and it was pretty good (except in the basement of some buildings which I guess is to be expected). As to the phone itself, both iPhones and Droids (typically the Samsung Galaxy) are all over campus so I’d just let your S pick what he prefers.
