T990 and other knowledgeable people

I need your help desperately.

Financial aid is becoming a huge concern for me because my dad is willing to pay 15,000 maximum but our efc is 20,000.

On the website (scholarship/financial aid site), no where did it say that they do not accept scores after november 2004.

this isn't right, they're putting down rules that weren't specified.

When i looked at case in the summer of 2004, i studied hard to get my 1450, (from the 1380 i got in november).

I am in the top 10 percent, taken all APS, and I am just as smart and balanced as the other presidential people.

I cannot go here with a provost.

i feel that i matured greatly in the past 2-3 months, and that i reached a new intellectual level in the mean time. It is extremely unfair to block me because i had a mental plateau while growing up and finally having the aptitude to beat this test. They are screwing me unfairly and this is an injustice.

Not only this, but they gave me NO AWARD, and i repeatedly call them, but always there is an answering machine.

This is the only school where i can in reality do electrical engineering because none of my other schools offer it (except Emory, but it'll be too expensive from the start!)

What should I do to convince them that I deserve it. How come i get for working hard, and getting screwed in the end. It's not fair at al i tell you

I private msgd you yesterday, did you get it? Please email them, not call. They will make sure a representative of the admissions dept gets back to you. That gives them a chance to find your records and look at your app b4 calling you back. Email and speak to them in a calm way (I know you are upset). They were very nice with us...please give it a try.

Also, if your parents are not willing to meet the full amount (like my husband and I) take out a loan or even a loan from your parents. My youngest realizes that is what he will have to do.

Your HS Guidance Office is better able to help you than this forum IMO. There are schools that have not closed their app process yet and you may need to start scrambling.

You have a financial safety on your list, right?

This means an in-state public college for most people. $15K/yr is enough to cover that. Some states have great state schools, others don't. But there

is

a college for everyone who wants to go. Check out this book at your library:

"How to Get an Ivy League Education at a State University" by Martin Nemko, 1988

It has great advice on how to use a state school to get a great education, esp the Honors programs.

If you transfer out after 2 years, your degree will still just show where you graduated from, no differently from everyone else. Community college route would even be more economical so you could save up for the last 2 years; some states (like CA) have really good CC's.

Some schools are great on Co-op programs. At Missouri-Rolla, a good engr school on par w/ CWRU, I read that the average co-op salary is $2,500/mo. Their app deadline is 7/1. Drexel (deadline 3/1) is also good for co-op's.

To close the $5K: you could work weekends starting right now and full time over the summer and close a lot of that; student loan the rest. If thats not enough, there's usually ways to find money leaks and close them. For instance, what if you stopped driving for the next 4 years? The savings on your parent's insurance premium is likely to be signficant. It would be $2,000/yr in my state.

One last thing, I received a lot of cards from St. Joseph's in Phila offering really good merit awards based on scores, etc. I don't remember the levels, but you might want to look into that school quick.

I guess the bottom line is, we all need to have options come April and hopefully will have some to choose from. Have you heard the saying, "Take control of your own destiny, or else someone else will"? If you have no options, it's time to get some lined up, or else take a year off and work.
