TAG and other Questions for UC

First question. If I sign a TAG agreement with my second choice school (UCI) do I absolutely have to go there when I get accepted for TAG? UCLA does not have a tag program and its too late for TAP, so Im still trying to get in the old fashioned way; I wanted to see If I could use the TAG program as a backup incase I dont get into UCLA. Is this possible? Or is it some type of facist program that forces you to go to the school that you signed the contract with? In other words, lets say I sign TAG contract with UCI, yet get accepted to UCLA, my choice would obviously be UCLA but can I enroll despite the contract? It's a strategy to guarantee acceptance to my second choice school if my first choice pulls the carpet from under me.

Also, do programs like UCLA CCCP scholars program/SITE program really help your chances for admit? I got accepted into the UCLA CCCP scholars program which is basically a transfer guidance program for underprivileged/minority students. It's a year long commitment to keeping contact with a mentor, maintaining certain GPA, going to summer orientation and summer SITE program, and going to the required workshops once a semester. The rep told me it looks good on your app, but nobody has really even heard of it that I talk to.

When you sign a TAG contract you have to get that schools mascot tattooed on you.

You must also perform a sacred blood sacrifice ritual with the Dean of that school and give up your virginity to him (even if you are male).

After all the only way to transfer to UC is to sacrifice your soul to Satan

Never mind giving up your left kidney to actually pay for UC when you get there

You can TAG as many schools as you want and still apply to UCLA and UCB. I did it for UCI and still got accepted to UCB and UCLA. You have the freedom to choose any school you want to go to even if you signed the TAG agreement with a college.

Oh, you know about the UCLA Союз Советских Социалистических Республик?

Sing with me, brother!

That song always brings a tear to my eye, comrade.

So do you think this is a good strategy? sign a TAG agreement and get guaranteed admission months in advance yet still apply and potentially go to a top choice school?

Also, whats with Berkeley accepting all these people from my school, yet UCLA rejecting them? Isn’t Berkeley suppose to be the flag ship all selective MVP school of the west coast? I would think that someone who is suitable for Berkeley would definitely be suitable for UCLA.

Applied under different majors? Some people apply as Biz Econ to UCLA and Econ to Cal, or Communications to UCLA and Media Studies for Cal…etc.

I got into SITE too…I think it sounds good. I was stoked to get in. I wont be able to go to site but I am still going to do the scholar program thing. I think anything you can do with the actual UC looks good. I dont have TAP. My school doesnt even have honors class. Lame-o. But yeah…I think all of that looks good and gives you an edge. It shows that you really want it. Obviously nothing is a guantee…so just do what you think will look good. Thats my motto.

Hey your in the same boat as me. I can’t go to SITE because of summer school but the scholars program is still good to be involved in because the rep said they help you with your personal statement and they keep contact with you to make sure your taking the right classes and going to the workshops. She said the transfer rate to UCLA is super high (like 60-70%) for people who go through the CCCP scholars program. I think they really work hard to get you into UCLA because once you get accepted they make you sign a contract that you will donate 20 hours per year of volunteer service. Well you dont have to but if you want good references they encourage that you do.

Yea that makes sense. UCLA has one of the most selective Biz Econ departments in the nation. Im not sure about Berkeley, Im probably just going to apply UCB for the eff of it, but I doubt ill get in.

20 hours per year is nothing. If I go to UCLA that will be no problem. I think it might be fun to help other incoming transfer students. It sounds like good karma to me… :)
