I am so confused with applying to UCSD.I am going to apply through TAG.My question first arises as to the requirements for TAG.Counselor tell me to finish IGETC since UCSD DOES ask to finish all these requirements(I'm not sure if your couselo'sr have said the same).I have finished these requirements.I will formally apply in September for TAG since it is when you apply. Then i question my self for my major.Im really interested in pharmeceutical chemistry.I try researching this and GPA but nothing about transfers into this program. So I dont know what GPA should I have.I have barely a 3.01.

Just finished two chem classes and the two economics classes required.this fall im going to take the first calculus and the last general chemistry class before taking organic chemistry.I still lack all three calculus-based physics, all two biology classes fro pre requisites, and the two organic chemistry classes.I plan to take calculus II in winter at another college that I do not normally go to,and take the first calculus-based physics;the first biology;and calculus III.

so in general,is my plan for the following school year a good plan to transfer and finish pre-reqs?what GPA should I have?other requirements should I have for TAG?which college in UCSD offers pharmeceutical program?should I consider UCSB or UCI?and lastly I will like to hear transfer stories to hopefully cheer me up and still feel motivated to fight the "good fight".lol.

Ok so I did a little bit research. Pharmacological Chemistry B.S lies under Chemistry and Biochemistry. Now I’m not sure if it’s impacted since UCSD states that all majors under the division of Biological sciences are impacted.

[Impacted Majors](http://www.ucsd.edu/current-students/academics/majors-minors/impacted-majors.html)

Now I’m not entirely sure but it “might” be impacted. TAG guarantees you a spot in UCSD, but NOT your major. But the majority of TAG applicants get into their intended major. I saw some people who were TAG’d and got rejected. They contacted UCSD and they were given admission. That being said, they do make mistakes. So if you are TAG’d into a NON impacted major, you’re fine. Just maintain your 3.0 GPA.

Impacted majors are a different story. TAG does not apply to impacted majors. For impacted majors, you need to have the majority of your pre-reqs done and a decent GPA. You need to be competitive. It is a known fact that UCSD does not look at your extra curricular activities. Their admissions are strongly based on your academic performance. Your grades and your classes. You should have at least a 3.4 GPA.

I had a friend who’s major was Biology. Her GPA was 3.0 and she dropped Ochem B in her spring semester. But she still got accepted. I would advise you to bump up your GPA as much as you can. People still got accepted into impacted majors with a 3.0. But don’t take it too easy. Keep working hard and good luck.

(Note: Both of the UC English courses and the UC math course must be completed by the end of Fall 2010, prior to Fall 2011 admission, a lot of people got rejected b/c of that)

You can find some transfer statistics over here:

Omg… My head hurts from so much reading. Ok, this is simple. In order to TAG into UC San Diego this is what you need to do:

When you apply in November, check the box that says TAG; there should be no other documentation required (unless something new came up since last year)

Maintain 3.0 GPA through Fall 2010 and Spring 2011; if your GPA drops, you lose the TAG and will most likely lose admission (3.01 is not competitive without the TAG).

Keep in mind if your priority is getting into UCSD then I wouldn’t recommend beginning calculus and organic chemistry unless you can GUARANTEE yourself that you can do well in them (don’t take more then 12 units per semester if you’re taking those classes).

In order to fulfill TAG you need to also complete IGETC by (or during) Spring 2011. UCSD cares more about IGETC then about prereqs for whatever reason…

However if you’re major is indeed impacted, you can literally forget everything I mentioned above.

thanks totaldj for the statistics.this was the kind of statistics i was looking for.

lmendoza.012:sorry for making you read that much.thanks for the advice for TAG.i will keep it in mind.
