Tag/ tap - ucla / ucsb?

I was looking at stats for UCLA Transfer admissions from 2011 for my major
and it said that most students that were accepted had a GPA around 3.94 and also, UCLA is not part of the TAG program (where youre guarenteed admission to a UC campus)

I would like to go to UCLA or UCSB - but UCLA is obviously better than SB - academically (and I dont like UCSD).

I am starting the whole Community College process in the fall of this year (graduated high school this year)

My question is.... If I join the TAG progrom (and try to get into UCSB) can I still apply as a transfer student to UCLA? - or do I HAVE to go to UCSB? - Like is it a contract?

Because to be honest, I am not sure if I CAN get a 3.94 GPA in community college - I certainly have the drive to do it, but what if I physically/academically am nOT able to..

And I don't want to take the chance of doing the TAP program and then applying to UCLA and UCSB - and then not even getting into UCSB - when I could've been guaranteed admission through TAG.

I hope this all makes sense...I might have explained it in a confusing way. Sorry.
Thanks.

You can most definitely apply to UCLA and UCSB with TAG. The TAG contract does not mean you must go to the school after being admitted. You can also apply to many different UCs using TAG (e.g. UCSB tag + UCI tag + UCLA tap, etc).

Getting 3.91 GPA at CCC is not easy, but if you are really determined to go to UCLA, then you can most certainly make it happen. Many CCC students have part-time/full-time jobs, so if you are allowed to only focus on studying, that’s a big advantage as well.

Good luck!

thanks whisper11, I think I will do that then, and go to the SB community college, since they have dormitories there and that way I get to have the dorm experience and then I can apply for the TAP program and the TAG program and hopefully Ill get into UCLA ! WOO.

thanks!

Also, does anyone know if you have to apply to the TAP program…are there deadlines…like do you need to apply before going to community college?

Also, for TAG, I’ve been looking at UC websites for this, but I am sorta confused, so do you apply for TAG after your first year of ccc and then youll be IN the program for the next year until you apply to UCs…?

TAP:

 1. Take a certain number of classes/units with a satisfactory GPA that your CCC requires to qualify to enroll in Honors classes.
 2. Take a required number of Honors classes/units to be certified as an Honors student.
 3. Apply for UC admission.

TAG:

 1. Finish requirements for TAG (such as English, Math, etc) before TAG deadline.
 2. Apply for TAG admission at each UC campus (the deadline differs depending on your choice of campus).
 3. Apply for UC admission.

There is nothing you should do before enrolling at your CCC so don’t worry too much. As for the deadline of TAG, I believe it was a couple months prior to the regular application’s deadline, but it differs depending on the campus and the year. For TAP, there isn’t any additional application to send in besides the regular application, I believe. You should talk to your school’s counselor when you start your semester for more details.

thanks, I’ll be sure to talk with a counselor for more information, but at least I have an idea of what I need to do now.

But, my other question that I’m struggling over…is which ccc should I go to?

I live in Norcal, and I read that ccc’s from socal have a higher acceptance rate, would it be a good idea to go to a ccc down there, if I want to increase my chances of getting in to UCLA?

And if so, then do you think I should go to sbcc (santa barbara city college) or Los angeles valley college? - both are part of tap, but i guess the difference is…
sbcc - cheaper housing, but harder to find a job
lavc - more expensive housing, but easy to find a job

what do you think? or should I just stay at home and go to the ccc near me? I don’t really want to stay home - I feel like I need to move out and be on my own. I’m very independent by nature.
