Im hearing that you can only TAG to one school in this fall.... anyone else hear the same?

Yes. My counselor told me the same thing. From next year onwards, transfer applicants will have to chose one particular UC that they want to TAG with.

Wow, that’s really unfortunate. Does anyone know where we can look to see the source and possibly reasoning for this? I’ve been looking online and can’t find anything.

I tried looking for a source online but couldnt find it either. Didnt even find a thread on it so I decided to make one. But multiple people that know their transferring info at my school confirmed it.

I just hope they at least make it 2 schools… All 7 is too much IMO anyway. But 7 to 1 is ridiculous.

seriously? Wow, things are really changing up for transfers.

Honestly, I was really surprised when I could tag into more than one school. It is probably for the best anyway, since it will drastically reduce the number of applicants who TAG into any particular school. Hopefully, then, by only allowing people to tag to one school, UCs do not have to raise the GPA cutoff for their TAGs by too much since the applicant pool will already be smaller when people are restricted from tagging to more than one school.

As of the last UC counselor conference (September 2010), I have not heard of such restriction for TAG. The UC transfer conference is taking place in May, so I should know by then whether such restriction will occur (highly unlikely since I have not heard anything remotely resembling that being discussed, ever).

But you should understand that each CCC may place a restriction on how many UCs its students can TAG (has something to do with allocation of counselor resources at the CCC). If your CCC is placing a restriction of one UC TAG per student, then perhaps you should consider attending another CCC.

I hope you’re right AskMsSun… I really want to TAG to at least 2 schools.

No its not my CCC restricting… its the UC TAG. The counselors here at my CC are saying that its not 100% that its going to be 1 school but the chances are 99%. They said they’re working on trying to make it 2 schools for the TAG but its either going to be 1 school or 2 schools for the TAG from this fall onwards…

Hmmm … I’m going to the May 2 UC ETS (Ensuring Transfer Success) which is the “UC transfer conference.” I should have a transcript of everything I hear up on my blog within a day or two of the conference. This should be interesting … perhaps we should organize a riot … I mean peaceful protest, just in case :)

TAG should be reduced to one per student. Think of the potential acceptance you will be taking away from a student that is applying without a TAG. One guarantee per student is more than enough with the competition just to get your foot in the door becoming increasingly difficult each year.

^ Exactly my thoughts. Why would you need more than one TAG?

Boston, it’s good to see like-minded individuals on here. To me, having more than one TAG is selfish.

@askmssun: Thanks.

@justin/boston: I see where you’re coming from… but people need options and wiggle room… for example, UCSD does not guarantee a major… so if I use a TAG for UCSD, I might not get my major and then I lose my “guarantee”/be forced to go into another major, you see what i mean? I decided to go to a CC because of the TAG program. Make the TAG 2 schools and that would be reasonable. Then at least I can be guaranteed into the major I want at another school.

Mamba, that’s quite a dilemma and I feel for you, but if UCSD or any other UC for that matter harbors unreliable admission practices then that should be considered when debating go TAG to that particuliar school. I’m all for choices, but guarantees are absolutes and there shouldn’t be many available. It’s such a great program and would be even greater if it was available to more students.

I think by limiting the TAG to one school it motivates students to really not mess it up and do well in their courses. Of course the new requirements are harsh enough, but if I was guaranteed one school, I definitely wouldn’t f- it up. I think it would be better to do one or maybe two schools because it really is a little excessive to do 5 TAGs. Though I’m a total hypocrite here because I TAGed with 3 schools. Sooooo yea…

I’m with BCP. I didn’t even TAG. I felt that since I have a “high enough” GPA, TAG would eliminate a spot for a student needing it more than I would.

I also think only being able to tag one UC wouldn’t be that bad… but I can understand if some people would like a better chance of getting into more colleges.

The UC opportunities we get as ccc students are amazing. Compared to how badass you have to be to be a competitive high school student, the cc route is pretty great. That said, I think those of us who browse these forums are more knowledgeable and ambitious than the average cc student.

I agree with you JustinCalifornia. Admissions this year is insane partly because putting the TAG application online made it so easy for people to TAG into multiple schools. Its just not fair to tag into multiple schools because you can only go to one in the end.

College applications are no time to be altruistic.

I TAGd to everywhere I could. The TAGs are so sketchy and provisional you cant really trust them until you are signed up for classes in the Fall.

^What’s your GPA and major lbc123?
