It's my first year in c.c... and I took only 9 units in my fall semester.
So I just want to take 20 units, and English isn't 'my first language..
I am planning to take
Sociology 101, Philosophy102b, math 119 (statistics) music101, and Eng101 (15units)
I just wonder that if I am taking Japanese, it will be too many??

i took 20 credits my first semester at miami and im taking 21 my second and i did fine. it takes a lot of effort though. you have to be willing to put in the work

Yeah I took 18 last year. Looks like most of those classes are a cake walk anyways so just be sure to schedule your time correctly and you’ll be fine.

How were your grades with 9 units? If English isn’t your first language, all of the reading and writing in Soc, Phil and Engl could be very time consuming and difficult, depending on your English skills. Japanese tends to be a more difficult language to learn.

How about trying 15 credits first? Or, if you really want to try 20, keep an eye on the deadlines to withdraw or change to Pass/Fail, so you can drop a class or take it P/F without penalty if necessary.

I took 19 creidts last semester and got a 3.68 on it. not very well, but I have only one class is B, and that class is Spanish which is hard to me as a third language. You just need to do more works and conceration.

see how well you do in the first week of classes. if you feel that you will not do very well in any one of your classes, think about dropping it. Better to have less credits than to risk a significant dip in GPA, expecially if you are considering a transfer to berkeley (according to your screenname).

i took 24 units last fall and got a 4.0. it actually wasn’t that bad. it got easier as the semester kept rolling along. after the first month or so after ur chance to drop is gone, u just get over the fact that ur taking alot of units and u just focus on ur goal and never look back

Do not be cocky and take your 12 units. The point is to do well in classes, not to take as many classes as one can imagine.

Meh… those are cupcake courses(exception-Japanese), you’ll be fine.

Hey there how did your 20 unit semester go? I plan on taking 24 units this fall as well at a cc. Last semester was only 6 weeks long and I took 3 physical science classes: 2 Anthro’s and Astronomy, I did okay got two A’s and a B, I liked it it really kept me focused. I don’t think it’s cocky either to be taking that big of a course load, it could be a possibility that we are just trying to transfer within a year, and have to double the units in order to accomplish that. I’m nervous about taking 24 units but 6 of the units are really easy: geography and modern art history, so I’m trying to look at it as taking 18 units. Good luck to you and are you attending Cal?

I think 24 units is a bit too much. How many classes is that? I never took more than 4 a semester (15-16 credits) per semester and only had to stay another semester at the CC.

I took 20 and 24units in the past, which is not that bad considering you have 16-18weeks.

This summer I took 9units (political science, psychology, and history) in 6 weeks, I would not suggest doing the summer thing though. To me it felt like everyday was final week, and between these classes we covered on average 3chapters a week so was not fun considering each chapter is 25-30pages. I did pass them all with A’s. In my opinion as long as your willing to do the work, and can keep motivated 18+ units would be completely fine.

maybe 6 units at m
