I've been working on this for a while now and I need your help! Do you guys think I should remove, add, or be more specific with any part/s of my personal statement? Any opinion is appreciated. Enjoy :)

What do you guys think?
I'm applying this November as a Business Economics major to UCLA with Math/Econ as my alternate major (TAP). I'm also applying to UCB. Do you guys think I have a good chance at HAAS? Because I don't, so I'm sticking with Economics. I will have a 3.75 by the end of Fall semester, after making up my two "F"s with "A"s, before they start looking over transfer apps. IGETC and all major pre-reqs will be complete by Spring prior to transferring. What do you guys think of my chances overall? Thanks :)

a 3.75 is just not enough if you’re applying to something like econ/business. Of course, it changes the story if you’ve had any SPECIAL circumstances.

yeah he is right. 3.7 is not enough to get into ucla business econ. Its quite impacted over there. You may need atleast 3.85 or 3.9,4.0 for international. Hell even in state need 3.9. I would say 3.9-4.0(70%) get in.

Thanks for the advice guys. Hopefully UCLA takes me as Math/Econ since 40-60% have been accepted over the past two years. Also, I erased my personal statement- thanks sparkyboy.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you will be rejected!
You can apply, cross your fingers, and see. A 3.75 is way too good compared to most people, but it might not be enough since Haas and Biz Econ adcom are filled with 4.00 and 3.99 applications. If you have a strong upward trend, or any internship, work exp, special circumstance, you certainly CAN get into these 2 programs.
And btw, Math Econ is really good to get into grad schools. Like you said, the chance you will get into Math Econ with a 3.75 is pretty high, I think should be around 75% :)

hey guys, I applied last year but I had some issues and didn’t end up committing to any universities…I’m applying again this year but would it be Okay if I used the same personal statements I used last year?

Well I do show a strong upward trend and great internship and work experience along with some special circumstances. Furthermore, I outline all of this pretty well in my personal statement.
Sparkyboy, I guess my toughest decision is wether I should take the risk of applying to Berkeley HAAS because I probably have a better chance with Berkeley Economics. What would you do if you were in my shoes? I haven’t found any stats on Berkeley Economics admissions. Do you think my chances with Economics would be significantly higher than HAAS?
Your comment on Math/Econ is very comforting. Thanks :)

Yeah, you definitely should recycle old essays to save time. But change them a little bit to reflect what happened to you last year, and what issues prevent you from committing to the UCs. Don’t just Ctrl+C Ctrl+V because your old essay is still in their system…

Congrats on the upward trend, internship + work exp!
If I were you, I wouldn’t risk losing the chance of getting into Cal by applying to Haas. This year Haas will be tough since the usual rejected applicants (folks that don’t complete the 7-course breath) are ELIGIBLE. You should go with normal Econ for Cal. And Math/Econ for UCLA. Obviously, your chance would be significantly higher than Haas + BizEcon.

That said, if you like BizAd MUCH MORE than normal hardcore econ, I advise you to follow your heart and not everyone’s advice, including mine :)

For those who are saying a 3.75 isn’t good enough for Haas…I got in this year with a 3.7 as a transfer student. UCB was the only school I applied to. Class of 2013!

Thanks for sharing your story and congrats!
It is not impossible, but it is a long reach with a GPA below 3.9. Just sayin’. #neversaynever #imnotjustinbieberfan

I know I’d choose HAAS over UCLA if I applied to HAAS. And I’d probably choose Berkeley Econ over UCLA BizEcon and Math-Econ.

I think I’ll apply to Berkeley Econ because I don’t think I will be at a huge disadvantage, regarding job recruitment, compared to the HAAS guys.(and because of sparkyboy’s advice)…I just need to network like a ninja!

Plus my personal statement is geared towards Econ and I don’t feel like redoing it.
