Take SAT/ACT again

So I've always wanted to try and get into a Duke,Stanford, MIT , or a top tier school and when i go through the decision threads, everyone has higher SAT scores and basically the same ACT scores and they get rejected, so is it worth me taking again. I have already taken the SAT three times(once in freshman year) and ACT twice (one was in 8th grade). I currently have a 2210 with 760 math, 690 CR, and 760 Writing and a 34 ACT. My SAT2 math is an 800 and I want to go into engineering. Should i retake my SAT and try to get an 800 in math and bump up CR?

You say how many times you’ve taken the test(s) but not year you are currently. If you are a rising Sr, you may be over this. I don’t encourage multiple testing for no reason, but your first tests were very early and you don’t say when your most recent tests were. The other, and largest issue would be, how prepared did you feel at your last test date. If you prepared well and felt good about the test there may be little to gain in taking it again. If you spent little time preparing and kind of winged the test, and are prepared to commit to a decent amount of prep over the summer (it’s really not that difficult) you may see some improvement.

So, depending on your last tests and level of effort put in, you make the call. Your scores are good…do you think you can do better, that’s the question? People are certainly accepted to Duke, Stanford and MIT with your scores and rejected with 2400.

You need to check the ranges of scores of students who actually are admitted to these universities. That is available right on their websites. Search for “Common Data Set”. Don’t rely solely on what you read here in the accepted/rejected threads. It is not necessary to have perfect scores to get into these institutions, and as you see from the rejections, perfect scores are no guarantee of admissions. The admissions offices take a lot of factors into consideration, not just test scores.
