Ok well I'm a senior in high school and I have taken the SAT two times already. My first time I got a low score less than 1500 and in the second time (2 days ago) I didn't really feel confident and probably got a 1700.
I talked with my counselor today on what I can do to apply to U penn or another ivy league and she suggests I take the ACT.
I have never seen the ACT before in my life nor even studied for it.
So I have come up with an alternate method:
1) I should cancel this most recent SAT score (so the colleges that require you to send all SAT scores don't see my medium score).
And
2) Take another SAT in November 5.

So in conclusion, should I leave my medium Sat score alone and take the ACT in December. (Counselor suggestion)
or
Should I cancel my most recent SAT score and devote almost all my time to studying for the SAT in November.

Thanks.

Hey there.

I scored a 1600 my first SAT and took it for the third time a few days ago (hoping its an 1890+)

I also took the ACT in september. All i prepped with was 2 official practice tests from the ACT Red Book.

I got a 26 composite (30 E, 27 M, 26 R, 20 S) [8 essay]

Thats equivalent to about an 1800.

I suggest you take the ACT, since most people do better on it by a few hundred points in SAT terms. As you can see, I went up about 200 points from my first score. I dont think UPenn would accept a 26-28…they’d consider a 29, but only look for 30> . Take the ACT in october, and the SAT in november. See how you do, and perhaps change Upenn…

Have you thought about reconsidering your choice in schools? Unless your SAT/ACT is your only weak point, I think it would be in your best interested to aim for something more probable.

As herozero said, you should take the ACT as well. I assume you would aim for 2000+ or 30 on your ACT. With only about a month left til the November test, a 200-300 point increase is highly unlikely. So unless you do well on the ACT, my advice would be to reconsider schools.
