So it's going to be my first quarter at UCSC and i thought I'd take it easy with the classes for my first quarter. Does 12 credits give me the full amount of Financial Aid that they offer me? On the website it says students who take 12 credits are considered full time students... but I am having trouble finding anything about my situation. I want to use my financial aid to its full benefits, so should I take one more class just to be safe?

Yes, 12 is the number. Just realize that you have no leeway to drop a course. Taking one more course does give you that option in case you run into trouble in a course, but then you are increasing the risk of having more courses to juggle. You have to decide which way to go with this.

That makes complete sense! I’m a taking organic chemistry/with lab and bio- Genetics, so I think I’ll just stick to 12 credits so I can focus harder on these two subjects. Thank you so much!
