Taking a semester off before I even start! I'm So Confused!

Ok so, I just enrolled in McDaniel College for Fall 2011. I've already chosen all my classes and am pretty much all set to attend. The problem is, now I think I'll need to have surgery in the next few weeks for a condition I have. Recovery will take about 8 weeks which means if I have it now, I'll be healed by the end of September. Classes start on August 31st at McDaniel.

Now I'm so confused because I don't know what I'm supposed to do about school. I have loans I've taken out and a dorm room selected. If I have the surgery, I'll be able to start school next semester, but I'm not sure what's going to happen with the loans and if I'll need to give up my dorm room and have the possibility of not getting housing when I go back. I'm also scared of not even being able to go back to the school.

I attended a Community College for the last 2 years and had full aid with grants, so I'm new to all this loans and housing stuff.

Does anyone have any idea of what I should do? Can my enrollment simply be deferred a semester? Will I have to apply for housing and financial aid again? This on top of my condition is really stressing me out so much. On top of all that, I suffer from Anxiety, so it makes everything much worse.

Mcdaniel may allow you to be enrolled on medical leave if you wish not to attend classes the first month. That said, it might be best to ask them if you can defer enrollment for a semester, and a lot of times, schools will allow you to defer your loans, thus you would not have to apply for fin. aid again–at least not for the one semester you attend Mcdaniel. Make sure to give them a call or e-mail them to find out how to handle your situation.

G’luck!

Call the school and whoever you are getting the loans from. Have your parents help out if needed.
